Bismillah-ir Rahman-ir Rahim
In a hadith from Imam Ali peace be with him to his close companion, Kumayl bin Ziyad, the Imam explains why he believes knowledge is better than wealth; he states that "knowledge protects you while you have to protect your wealth".
In the day and age we live in, we are first handedly experiencing an intellectual onslaught on Islam. Today our youth, and even older generations, are faced with great challenges that sometimes bring about major doubt regarding different aspects of religion and God; doubts that slowly erode one’s faith and negatively impact one’s religious devotion. The days where people lived in isolation and didn’t have to worry about addressing what was happening outside are long over. Due to communications, the world has virtually transformed into a small village in which people are connected to one another whether they like it or not.
In the past, it wasn’t too hard to dismiss such intellectual and academic challenges; just the fact that you were born and raised in a certain culture was enough to ignore it all. But now times have changed and something is needed to protect us from these dangers; culture and emotions aren’t enough anymore. We are witnessing more and more questions being raised by our fellow Muslims and how in some cases, these lead to them denouncing their religion, denomination (Shiism), or at the very least, becoming much weaker in their faith. As a matter of fact, this might be what is meant by the famous hadith that discloses to us how in the end of times, preserving one’s faith will be harder than holding on to hot coal; that in the end of times, there will be so many challenges and doubts that one will find it hard to hold on to their faith.
Therefore, we are in need of something to protect us from all of the above, and as the hadith of Imam Ali peace be with him to Kumayl clearly tells us, what protects us is knowledge. It is only with knowledge that such challenges can be countered. It is only with sufficient knowledge that one can fight against intellectual arguments and point out their fallacies. It is only with such that one can reconcile between seemingly conflicting tenants of religion and prove the absence of any discrepancies.

🎆The significance of the event of al-Mubahala
💠. It proved to be a silencing lesson for all the people that never be the subject of imprecation by the Prophet and Progeny peace be with them.
💠. The invitation of 'Mubahala' was directed by God, and it was in compliance with His Command that the Prophet took his Ahl-ul Bayt along with him to the field of Mubahala. This serves to generalize how affairs pertaining to Apostleship and the religion of God are determined by the Will of God; allowing no margin of interference from the common people (Ummah). The matter of Imam Ali's succession followed by eleven Imams to the office of religious leadership should be viewed in this perspective.
💠. The indispensability of ‘Ali, Fatimah, Hasan and Husayn in following the precepts of the Prophet could no longer be disputed. This event established who the members of the Prophet’s household (Ahl-ul Bayt) were, and their spiritual purity.
💠. That notwithstanding their childhood, Imam Hasan and Imam Husayn did, nevertheless, serve as the active partners of the Prophet in the field of Mubahala. This yields the conclusion that age is no criteria for the greatness of the infallibles (Ma’sumeen). They are adorned with virtues, wisdom and knowledge.
💠. That the Holy Prophet's act of having preferred a few obviously elevates their status above all others.

🔺Ayatollah Sayed Kamal al Hayderi:
✔️I imagine that the walk to Imam Hussain (peace be with him’s shrine) on Arbaeen is from the most important keys and strongest (activities) of this blessed movement for spreading the message of (Imam) Hussain (peace be with him). However, subject to conditions, (it is) to benefit and profit (people) in knowledge, thought, education, and awakening of the Ummah. however, is this happening or not?
✔️We see all the tents (during the walk), (so) what is their purpose? Is their purpose and aim intellectual and educational? Or is their purpose just to give food and other services? Which one of them? May God reward those who are presenting these services (of food, water, and other services to the pilgrims)!
✔️However, the issue (at hand) is greater than (just) these services (of food etc). Imam Hussain (peace be with him’s objective) wasn’t just for people to walk to him 500 km or 5000 km. Rather he wanted his cause to be a torch that gives light to the path, to humanity. That is why if you were to refer to Imam Hussain’s (peace be with him) speech in Karbala, you will find him saying,
✔️ “If you don’t believe in the last day (day of Judgment), then (at least) be free men in your world!”
✔️(If) These words aren’t directed to me, (then) who is it directed to? To the Shi’a… No! To the Muslims… No! To those who believe in God… No! (Rather) it was directed to all of humanity, even to those who don’t believe in the Day of Judgment.
✔️This is who Hussain (peace be with him) is. (So) what I say now is directed to all those millions that go to the grave of Abi Abdillah al Hussain (peace be with him). We find the (above) hadith very clear… even if there isn’t a narration, we don’t need it, the Quranic text suffices. Are we at the present moment able to benefit (truly) from these rites and send a message to humanity, or do we find (with great regret) that this holy act and this sacrifice (of Imam Hussain peace be with him) of which there is none like it in history and even till the Day of Judgment a like will never come, has it (instead) fallen into the hands of ignorant people?
✔️I say ignorant, however I don’t doubt the intentions of anyone. I’m not saying that those who call towards some of these acts are like this or that… Never! But what I want to say, is that these acts are in reality in opposition to the movement of Imam Hussain (peace be with him) and it is upon the religious institutions (which) I shout and say again (that it is) upon the religious institutions to take these affairs relating to Imam Hussain (peace be with him) and to make them the most important thing for humanity, and to wake up the Ummah to reach the aims that Imam Hussain (peace be with him) wanted.

What is the purpose of the Quran in this reproach? It's purpose is training. Moral Characteristics of the Prophets: A Qur'anic Perspective
By
Mahnaz Heydarpoor & Mohammad Ali Shomali

Part two
8.His heart is strengthened by God
Whatever We relate to you of the accounts of the apostles are those by which We strengthen your heart, and there has come to you in this [surah] the truth and an advice and admonition for the faithful. (11:120)
The faithless say, 'Why has not the Qur'an been sent down to him all at once?' So it is, that We may strengthen your heart with it, and We have recited it [to you] in a measured tone. (25:32)
9.He puts his trust in God
Thus have We sent you to a nation before which many nations have passed away, that you may recite to them what We have revealed to you. Yet they defy the All-beneficent. Say, 'He is my Lord; there is no god except Him; in Him I have put my trust, and to Him will be my return.' (13:30)
Whatever thing you may differ about, its judgment is with God. That is God, my Lord. In Him I have put my trust, and to Him I turn penitently. (42:10)
10.Mercy to all the inhabitants of the world:
We did not send you but as a mercy to all the nations. (21:107)
11.Trustworthy:
[saying,] 'Give over the servants of God to me; indeed I am a trusted apostle [sent] to you. (44:18)
12.Hard against the faithless
Muhammad, the Apostle of God, and those who are with him are hard against the faithless and merciful amongst themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in worship], seeking God's grace and [His] pleasure. Their mark is [visible] on their faces, from the effect of prostration. Such is their description in the Torah and their description in the Evangel.
Like a tillage that sends out its shoots and builds them up, and they grow stout and settle on their stalks, impressing the sowers, so that He may enrage the faithless by them. God has promised those of them who have faith and do righteous deeds
forgiveness and a great reward. (48:29)
13.Devotion to God
Muhammad, the Apostle of God, and those who are with him are hard against the faithless and merciful amongst themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in worship], seeking God's grace and [His] pleasure. Their mark is [visible] on their faces, from the effect of prostration.(48:29)
Indeed your Lord knows that you stand vigil nearly two thirds of the night -or [at times] a half or a third of it- along with a group of those who are with you. (73:20)
14.Great character
Nun. By the Pen and what they write: you are not, by your Lord's blessing, crazy, and yours indeed will be an everlasting reward, and indeed you possess a great character. You will see and they will see, which one of you is crazy. Indeed your Lord knows best those who stray from His way, and He knows best those who are guided.
(68:1-4)
15.Good example
In the Apostle of God there is certainly for you a good exemplar, for those who look forward to God and the Last Day, and remember God greatly. (33:21)

🌹Imam Husain (peace be with him) asked his father, Imam Ali (peace be with him) in regards to the silence of the Prophet (peace be with him and his progeny):
🍃"His silence was based on four things:
1) Forebearence
2) Caution
3) Consideration
4) Contemplation
🔹As for (his silence in) consideration, this was in order to look and listen to everyone carefully.
🔹As for contemplation, it was about what remains and what perishes [awe of the permanent reality of God, and the finitude of the universe and nature].
🔹He had a perfect balance of forebarence and patience. Nothing would enrage him or upset him
🔹He was cautious in four things: in his doing a good deed so that others would emulate him, in his abandoning evil so that others would also reject it, in his struggle to make the best decisions to reform his community, and in his performing that which secures the good of this world and the next".

✳️Imām Ali ibn-e Mūsa-ar Redhā (peace be with him) said:
✳️"The intellect of a Muslim is not complete until he carries ten qualities:
💠1- (Only)Good is expected from him
💠2- There is no evil (at all) expected from him
💠3- He perceives others' small good deeds as great
💠4- Perceives his own great good deeds as little
💠5- He doesn't get tired of people asking him to fulfil their requests (or needs).
💠6- He never gets tired of seeking knowledge and wisdom throughout his life
💠7- Poverty (in being) with God is dearer to him than being rich (and not being with God.
💠8-a Humble life with God is dearer to him than dignity and honor with God’s enemy
💠9- Obscurity (being unpopular) is preferable than being famous".
Then the Imam (peace be with him) said: "and as for the tenth quality, you don’t know how important that is?!"
One asked: what is it?
💠10-The Imam then said: "It is to regard and assume others as better and more pious.
✳️Then Imam said: People are of two kinds:
A- Better and more pious than him
B- Evil and much lower (in humanity) than him.
🔻When he meets one who is more evil and lower than him, he says: perhaps the good of that man is hidden (within) and this is in the best interest for that man, while his own good is apparent and this is not good for him.
🔻When he meets with those who are better and more pious than he is, he behaves modestly and humbly in order to join the rank of that pious man. If he does this, his glory will be lofty, good deeds accepted, (and) his remembrance (and reputation) will excell.
🔻(All of which, these qualities will make him) the master of the people of his time".

📄His Description of a Pious Person
The God-fearing are the people of distinction. Their speech is to the point, their dress is modest, and their gait is humble. They keep their eyes closed to what God has made unlawful for them, and they tune their ears to the knowledge that is beneficial to them. During times of trial, they remain calm. The greatness of the Creator is in their hearts, and everything else appears insignificant to them. To them, Paradise and its enjoyments are as if they are visualizing them. To them, the sufferings and punishment of Hell are as if they are actually witnessing them.
Their hearts are grieved (from seeing the suffering around them), they protect themselves from evil, their bodies are lean (due to fasting and eating less), their needs are few, and their souls are chaste. They endure (hardship of this life) for a brief period, and they, in return, secure lasting bliss (of the Hereafter). It is a beneficial transaction, and God made it available to them. The world tried to allure them, but they did not respond to it. It laid its snare for them, but they avoided it.
During the nights, they recite the Holy Scripture (the Qur’an), and through its recitation they seek spiritual (uplifting and) purification. When they come across a verse describing Paradise, they are attracted to it and visualize it in their imagination. When they come across a verse which contains descriptions of Hell, they feel as though the sounds of Hell are reaching their ears. They prostrate themselves and beseech God, the Sublime, for their deliverance.
They downplay their good deeds. They are quick to accept blame. When someone praises them, they say to themselves, “I know myself better than others, and my Lord knows me better than I know.” They then pray: “O’ God, do not deal with me according to what they say, make me better than what they think of me, and forgive me for (those of my shortcomings) which they do not know.”
The characteristic of the pious one is that he has strength in religion, he has firmness along with leniency, he has faith with conviction, eagerness in (seeking) knowledge, moderation in riches, devotion in worship, gracefulness in deprivation, endurance in hardship, desire for the lawful, and dislike for greed. He performs virtuous deeds but still feels fear (for not doing enough). He thanks and praises God morning and evening. The coolness of his eye lies in the gifts that are everlasting (in the Hereafter), in preference to the things of this world.
His worldly hopes and aspirations are few and simple, his spirit is contented, his meals are small and simple, his religion safe, and his anger is suppressed. Only good is expected from him. Evil is far removed from him. He forgives him who wrongs him, and he gives to him who deprives him. He behaves well with him who behaves ill with him.
He is soft-spoken; indecent speech is far removed from him. His sins are nonexistent and his virtues are ever many. His manner is dignified during calamities; he is patient in times of distress and is thankful (to God) during times of ease. He deals justly with people, even if he dislikes them, and does not commit sins for the sake of his loved ones. He admits truth, even before evidence is brought against him. He does not withhold what is in his custody and does not forget his obligation. He does not give bad names to others, nor does he harm his neighbor. He does not feel happy at the misfortunes of others; he avoids what is wrong and adheres to what is right.
If he is wronged, he endures and lets God take revenge on his behalf. People feel safe from him. He endures hardships in this life for the sake of the life in the Hereafter. His keeping away from others is by way of asceticism and purification, and his nearness to those to whom he is near is by way of kindness. His keeping away from people is not by way of vanity or feeling of superiority, nor is his closeness to them just for show.

🔸"The Quran is anchored in reproaching those who are under the yoke of blindly following their ancestors and forefathers and refuse to think so as to set themselves free. What is the purpose of the Quran in this reproach? It's purpose is training. That is, it actually wants to awaken people to set discernment, reasoning and thinking as their scale and criterion and not to do anything merely on the pretext that their forefathers did so.One day, I listed the Quranic verses about blind following and imitation of forbearers, I observed that they are many. And what was interesting for me was that no prophet invited his people without being met with this excuse:
🔺إِنَّا عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِم مُّقْتَدُونَ
'we found our fathers following a creed and we are indeed following in their footstep' (Quran 43:23).
🔹The prophets' communities were very diverse as far as their traditions were concerned. Every prophet raised an issue which was relevant to his community's way of life and faced a problem unique to that community. Yet there was one problem common to all communities and which all prophets faced, and that was the burden of imitating forefathers and predecessors; in today's parlance, it is called 'traditionalism' [(pertaining to cultural customs)]. On the contrary, the prophets awakened the peoples minds, telling them to think..
🔺أَوَلَوْ كَانَ آبَاؤُهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ شَيْئًا وَلَا يَهْتَدُونَ
'What(!?), Even if their fathers neither applied any reason nor were guided?'" (Quran 2:170)

What we learned from Ahlulbait (peace be with them). Part 1
One day Imām Sadiq (peace be with him) asked his students: “‘What have you learned from me so far?’
One student said: ‘I learned 8 things from you.’
Imām Sadiq (peace be with him) replied: ‘Share so we may know.’
1. I learned that every lover will let go of his beloved at the time of death, thus I spent my energy on that which will not separate from me and won’t leave me alone. In fact, it is my intimate friend in my solitude and that thing (which won’t separate from me) is virtuous deeds in the way of God, which will remain with me even after death. (In this regard) God says: “Whoever commits evil shall be required for it (Nisa, 123).”’
Imām replied: ‘Well said by God! And what is the second?’
2. I saw that a group of people take pride in their mass of wealth, and another take pride in their properties and family lineage, all while none of this is to be proud about. I saw true pride in the words of God: “Indeed the most noblest of you in the sight of God is the most Godwary among you (Hujurat, 13).”
Imam replied: ‘Well said by God! And what is the third.’
3. I see that people are busy in worldly amusements and entertainment, while I heard that God said: “But as for him who is awed to stand before his Lord and restrains his soul from (following) desires, then indeed paradise will be his refuge (Naziat, 40-41).”
Imām replied: ‘Well said by God! And what is the fourth?’
4. I saw that everyone would hoard and save whenever they received something while God has said: “Who is it that will lend God a good loan, that He May multiply it for him and (that) there may be a noble reward for him? (Hadid, 11).” (Thus) whoever lends (meaning give) to the path of God, then God will multiply it multifold and reward him immensely. Therefore, I love multiplication (of my reward) and I don’t see anything more secure than what is with God. For this reason, whenever I receive something (in) great (amount), I use it to face God and spend in His path in order to save it for the hereafter where I will greatly need it.

What we learned from Ahlulbait (peace be with them). Part 2
Imām replied: ‘Well said by God! And what is the fifth?’
5. I see that some are envious of others while God states: “It is We who have distributed among them their livelihood in the present life, and raised some of them above others in rank, so that some of them may take others into service, and your Lord’s mercy is better than what they amass (Zukhruf, 32).” Thus, when I realized that God’s mercy is better than what people gather, I never envied anyone and never felt sorrow for the (worldly items) that I lost.
Imām replied: ‘Well said by God! And what is the sixth?’
6. I see that some people become enemies with each other over worldly and egotistic reasons, while I heard the words of God: “Indeed Satan is your enemy, so treat him as an enemy (Fatir, 6).” Thus, I took Satan as my enemy and abandoned enmity with others.
Imām replied: ‘Well said by God! And what is the seventh?’
7. I see that people gather material a lot in their efforts to seek sustenance (through working and jobs) and place themselves in hardships, while I heard God say: “And I did not create jinn and humans except that they may worship Me. I desire no provision for them nor do I desire that they feed Me. Indeed it is God who is the All-Provider, Powerful, and All-Strong (Adh-Dhariyat,56-58).” Hence, I realized that the promise of God is true and His words are right. As a result I settled on His promise, accepted His words, and shifted my focus away from seeking what is for me (that is, my sustenance) from other than God.
Imām replied: ‘Well said by God! And what is the eighth?’
8. I see that a group of people rely on their health and wellness and another group on their large amounts of wealth and another on the number of their offspring, and are thus seeking a bright future, while I have heard that God said: “Whoever is wary of God, He shall make for him a way out and provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon God, He will suffice him. Indeed God carries His commands, God has ordained a measure (and extent) for everything.” Hence, I trust on God and my reliance upon others has vanished.
Imām (peace be with him) after hearing all eight points responded: ‘I swear by God that the Torah, Bible, Psalms, Qur’an, and other heavenly sourced scriptures refer to these issues.’”
