Abode of Wisdom

Imam Al-Husein peace be with him wanted to liberate the people who were enslaved by the rulers, and therefore the revolution of Imam Al-Husein peace be with himwas launched based on this humanitarian aspect in order to achieve freedom for the entire mankind.

The dimensions of Imam Al-Husein's revolution:
As we read through the narration of Imam Al-Husein peace be with him, we see that when he went out to the battle to fight those who came to fight him, and when he saw his opponents invading the tents of the women, he addressed them saying: "O You the followers of Abu Sifyan, if you do not follow a religion, and if you do not fear the Judgment day, be free in your lives and return to your origins if you were Arabs."
Imam Al-Husein peace be with him raised two issues here. The first is that he laid emphasis to the freedom of man when he said: If you do not abide by religious values and you do not believe in a creed, at least be free. The free man is the one who does not sell himself or his position or opinion in return for money or positions. Do not be slaves, because you are fighting to obey those who enslave you.
The second issue he raised is that Imam peace be with him tried to provoke in them the feelings of Arabism which Islam approved: "Be Arabs", not in terms of the narrow nationalism, but on the basis of the values the Arabs lived, which Islam adopted some of them and eliminated others. This discourse is not addressed to the followers of Abu Sufyan in particular, but to every human being.

On the humanitarian level, we also read his speech when he was asked to give legitimacy to Yazid. He said: "The illegitimate, son of the illegitimate, has settled between two: between unsheathing [the sword] and humiliation, and how impossible is humiliation from us." So it is about being honored in all your life. Imam As-Sadiq peace be with him was quoted as saying upon interpreting the following Quranic verse: "God has the glory and His Prophet and the believers." (63:08) Imam As-Sadiq peace be with him said: "God has allowed the believer to run all his affairs, but he did not authorize him to humiliate himself." Glory is based on power: "The power is wholly Allah's". (02:165). So, to be honorable is to be strong and defending you humanity and freedom.

Then he said: "Do not you see that no one abides by the right and everyone embarks on the wrong?" He is talking about the righteousness which people should abide by, and righteousness is the concept that exists in all the issues of human beings, which ascend his position at the individual, political and social levels.
Therefore, we have to present Ashoura to the entire world in its humanitarian aspect, rather than restricting it to a sectarian aspect because Imam Al-Husein peace be with him is the imam of all Muslims and he obtained his Imamate from Prophet Muhammad (p.) with whom Al-Husein peace be with him lived his early childhood. He also lived with his mother, Sayyeda Az-Zahra and his father Ali peace be with him. So, he enjoyed all the elements and characters of spiritual faith these figures enjoyed. Prophet Muhammad (p.) said: "Husein is from me, and I am from Husein", which reveals the spiritual integration between the Prophet (p.) and Al-Husein peace be with him.

The values of reform in the revolution of Imam Al-Husein peace be with him:
Imam Al-Husein peace be with him said: "I revolted neither for wickedness nor for fame. Verily I rose only to seek for reform in the nation of my grandfather; the messenger of Allah." He did not speak about a certain family or region, but about the entire nation, because he was shouldering the responsibility of the whole nation through his Imamate. "I want to enjoin good and forbid wrong and evil", he said. So, he noticed the deviant situation of the nation, because the rule prevailing at that time damaged the humanitarian aspect of the people who used to love Imam Al-Husein peace be with him and his family, but at the same time, they were fighting to earn money or obtain a certain position in the authority, such as Omar BinSa'ad

⚖️Justice of Imam Ali (peace be with him):

➡️The Retirement

📍The old man, a Christian by religion, had worked all his life; but had not been able to save anything for his old age. Lately he had become also blind. Old age, poverty and blindness had joined hands and he had no other way except begging. He used to stand at the corner of a lane for begging. People had compassion for him and gave him some alms from which he ate every day, and so he con- tinued his sad life.

📍One day Ali, the Leader of the Faithfuls passed through the lane and saw the beggar in that condition. Ali, out of his concern for others, enquired about the old man. He wanted to know the factors which led him to that condition. "Had he no son to support him? Or, is there no other way for him to live a respectable life in his old age?"

📍The people who knew the old man came forward and informed Ali that he was a Christian and had worked hard so long as he had his eyes, and was young and strong. Now that he had lost his youth as well as his eyes he was unable to do any work; also he had no savings, so it was natural that he was begging.

📍Ali said, "Strange! Till he had strength you extracted work from him and now you have left him on his own?" His story shows that he had worked when he had the strength. Therefore, it is the duty of the Government and the society to support him till he is alive. Go, and give him a life-pension from the State-treasury."

Congratulations on the auspicious birth (days) of Imam Husain bin Ali bin Abitalib, Imam Ali Zain-ul Abedin and Hadhrat Ab-ul Fadhlil Abbas (peace be with them) to all Muslims and believers.

They (infallible Leaders) never supported the tyrants instead spoken up against the corrupt leaders, oppressors and their corrupt systems. They are a role models for the followers of faith in Godly values and truth seekers, in sacrifice, resistance for freedom and liberty from ignorance and slavery of desires.

Imam Husain (peace be with him): Do not talk about your brother when he is absent except what you would like him to say about you in your absence.

Imam Ali Zain-ul Abedin (peace be with him) said about his uncle Hadhrat Ab-ul Fadhlil Abbas “may God have mercy with my uncle Abbas. He preferred his brother on himself. He sacrificed himself for his brother until he lost his both hands. Thus instead of his hands, God has given him wings with which he fly in heaven with angles, like Jafar bin Abitalib. On the day of judgement, the blessed and exalted Abbas bin Ali enjoys a rank that all the martyrs will wish similar one.

O people! Prefer him (' Ali) over all others! There is no knowledge except that Allah has divulged it to me, and all the knowledge I have learned I have divulged to Imam al-Muttaqin (leader of the righteous), and there is no knowledge (that I know) except that I divulged it to' Ali, and he is al-Imam al-Mubin (the evident Imam) whom Allah mentions in Surat ya-Sin: "... and everything We have computed is in (the knowledge of) an evident Imam" (Qur'an, 36:12).

O people! Do not abandon him, nor should you flee away from him, nor should you be too arrogant to accept his authority, for he is the one who guides to righteousness and who acts according to it. He defeats falsehood and prohibits others from acting according to it, accepting no blame from anyone while seeking to please Allah. He is the first to believe in Allah and in His Messenger; none preceded him as such. And he is the one who offered his life as a sacrifice for the Messenger of Allah and who was in the company of the Messenger of Allah while no other man was. He is the first of all people to offer prayers and the first to worship Allah with me. I ordered him, on behalf of Allah, to sleep in my bed, and he did, offering his life as a sacrifice for my sake.

O people! Prefer him (over all others), for Allah has preferred him, and accept him, for Allah has appointed him (as your leader).

O people! He is an Imam appointed by Allah, and Allah shall never accept the repentance of anyone who denies his authority, nor shall He forgive him; this is a must decree from Allah never to do so to anyone who opposes him, and that He shall torment him with a most painful torment for all time to come, for eternity; so, beware lest you should oppose him and thus enter the fire the fuel of which is the people and the stones prepared for the unbelievers.

O people! By Allah! All past prophets and messengers conveyed the glad tiding of my advent, and I, by Allah, am the seal of the prophets and of the messengers and the argument against all beings in the heavens and on earth. Anyone who doubts this commits apostasy similar to that of the early jahiliyya, and anyone who doubts anything of what I have just said doubts everything which has been revealed to me, and anyone who doubts any of the Imams doubts all of them, and anyone who doubts us shall be lodged in the fire.

O people! Allah, the most Exalted and the Almighty, has bestowed this virtue upon me out of His kindness towards' Ali and as a boon to' Ali and there is no god but He; to Him all praise belongs in all times, for eternity, and in all circumstances.

O people! Prefer' Ali (over all others), for he is the very best of all people after me, be they males or females, so long as Allah sends down His sustenance, so long as there are beings. Cursed and again cursed, condemned and again condemned, is anyone who does not accept this statement of mine and who does not agree to it. Gabriel himself has informed me of the same on behalf of Allah Almighty Who he said (in Gabriel's words): " Anyone who antagonizes' Ali and refuses to accept his wilayat shall incur My curse upon him and My wrath." "... and let every soul consider what it has sent forth for the morrow, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah" (Qur'an, 59:18), "And do not make your oaths a means of deceit between you lest a foot should slip after its stability" (Qur'an, 16:94), " Allah is fully aware of all what you do" (Qur'an, 58: 13).

O people! He (' Ali) is janb-Allah mentioned in the Book of Allah, the Sublime One: The Almighty, forewarning his (' Ali's) adversaries, says, "Lest a soul should say: O woe unto me for what I fell short of my duty to Allah, and most surely I was of those who laughed to scorn" (Qur'an, 39:56).

🌺 The last messenger of God said: ‘The appetites of two men will never be satisfied; he who is hungry for this world, and he who Is hungry for knowledge.

🌺 Whoever restricts himself to that which God has permitted of this world is safe, but whoever who consumes what is not permitted of it will perish unless he repents and returns to the right path.

🌺 Whoever takes knowledge from its possessors and acts upon it is saved, but whoever seeks it for worldly gain will only benefit in this world’. 🌺

🌺 In Ma'ani al-Akhbar: In his tradition from Ahmad ibn Abi Abdillah from his father, in a Hadith attributed to the noble Prophet (peace be with him and his progeny) that he said:

"Jibraeel (Angel Gabriel) came to me and said: 'O Prophet of Allah! Allah has sent me to you with a gift which He has not given to anyone before you'.

The noble Prophet asked:
🍃'what is it?'
💠 Jibraeel replied: 'it is patience, and something better than it'.

🍃 He asked: 'and what is that?'.
💠 Jibraeel replied: 'it is satisfaction, and something better than it'.

🍃 He asked: 'and what is that?'
💠 Jibraeel said: 'it is abstinence; and that which is better than it'.

🍃 He said: 'and what is that?'
💠 Jibraeel said: 'it is sincerity; and something better than that'.

🍃 He said: 'and what is that?'
💠 Jibraeel said: 'it is certainty; and something better than it'.

🍃 The Noble Prophet (then) said: 'i said: "what is that O' Jibraee!"
💠 He said: 'the way to attain all of them is to trust in Allah'.

🍃 I said: 'oh Jibraeel, what is the meaning of trusting in Allah?'
💠 He said: knowing that creation can neither cause harm nor benefit and can neither give nor withhold (anything), and having no hope (of getting anything from creation). When the servant reaches this state, he does not do anything save for Allah, and he neither desires nor fears anyone but Allah, and he does not set his hopes on anyone except Allah. This is is the meaning of trusting in Allah'.

🍃 The noble Prophet said: I said: 'oh Jibraeel, what is the meaning of patience?'.
💠 He replied: 'one must be forebearing and patient in times of affliction as he is in times of joy, and in poverty as he is in wealth, and in calamity as he is in comfort; without complaining of his condition because of what has befallen him'.

🍃 I said: 'and what is the meaning of contentment?'
💠 He (jibraeel) said: 'to be pleased with whatever comes to him in this world, being content with whatever little he has and thanking Allah for it'.

🍃 I said: 'and what is the meaning of satisfaction?'
💠 He (jibraeel) said: 'it means that one should never be displeased with his Master, whether he gets (the comforts) of the world or not, and not be happy with one's few good deeds'.

🍃 I said: 'and what is the meaning of abstinence?'
💠 He (jibraeel) said: 'that one loves whatever his Creator loves and hates whatever his Creator hates, and is very careful about what is lawful and does not glance at what is unlawful; for what is lawful is to be accounted for and what is unlawful will entail punishment. He is merciful to all Muslims and he is merciful to himself. He avoids useless speech just as he avoids a corpse with an intensely foul smell. He avoids possessions and embellishments of this world just as he keeps away from fire -- ensuring that it does not cover him. He has no great (worldly) hopes or desires and he always remembers (the inevitable occurrence) of his death'.

🍃 I said: 'oh Jibreel, and what is the meaning of sincerity?'
💠 He (jibraeel) said: 'a sincere person is one who does not ask for anything from people until he obtains it (himself) and whenever he obtains it, he is pleased with it. If something extra remains with him, he gives it in the way of Allah. By not asking for anything from others, he has shown that he is truly a servant of Allah. If he obtains what he wants, he becomes happy and is pleased with Allah, and Allah the Almighty is pleased with him. When he gives from it in the way of Allah, he has reached the stage of fully relying on his Lord'.

🍃 I said: 'And what is certainty'?
💠 He (jibraeel) said: 'a man with certainty performs actions for the sake of Allah as though he sees Him. Even if he does not see Allah, he knows Allah sees him; and he is certain that what is coming to him (by the will of Allah') will not pass by him, and what is not meant to be for him will not come to him. These are all branches of trust in Allah' and abstinence'".

📝An Account of Luqman the Wise:

💠It is recorded in reliable sources that Imam Ja‘far as-Sadiq said,

📍 “I swear by Allah and say that Allah did not give wisdom owing to his lineage, wealth, family or physique but only because he was steadfast in obeying Allah and refraining from His disobedience. He was a silent gentleman who never talked without wisdom. He possessed a peaceful heart and a thoughtful mind. His eyes were ever ready to pick up admonition and did not required others’ advice. He did not sleep in daytime. Nobody ever saw him bathing or answering nature’s calls openly like others of that time because he carried out all such affairs secretly. He had a sharp eye but he never liked to be aware of others’ secrets. He never laughed on any occasion fearing his sins nor did he frown upon anybody for his own sake. He never ridiculed anyone. He neither became overjoyed by getting any worldly gift nor became sorrowful due to losing anything. He married many women and begot many children. Many of his children died but he never wept at their loss nor counted their number to be proud (of their number).

📍He never went away from two quarrelling persons until he made peace between them and they gave up fighting. He never got pleased with anyone’s good word unless he obtained its meaning and explanation. He also asked from whom the other person heard it. Most of the time he sat with the wise, the intelligent and jurisprudents. He used to go to the judges and the kings and the rulers only to get lesson from their conditions. While seeing the judges he used to be kind looking to their difficult duties. He was also kind toward the kings thinking that being ignorant they were running away from Allah and were loving the material world. He took lessons from their (kings) events. He also used to remember some of their undesirable things whereby he controlled his desires. He fought his desires and kept away from conspiracies of Satan. He treated the diseases of his soul through contemplation and by obtaining lessons from worldly people. He never moved from his place unless he had a hope of any gain by doing anything. Because of all these qualities Allah had bestowed upon him His wisdom and had made him sinless. In the middle part of a day when the rest of the people were taking rest, Allah sent some of His angels to Luqman. The angels called Luqman but in such a way that he could only hear their voice without seeing them".

🔹Our arguments (in defense of) Imam Ali is mostly about his sayings and beautiful actions, and we hardly speak or hear about what he did not say and what he did not do. We have taken his general traits for granted, such that anyone can easily apply those generalities and place themselves in the shoes of this (most) prominent man in (the pages of) history, where we attempt to rival him.

🔹I've criticized (the concept of) introducing individuals like Imam Ali and (the concept of being unable to be like him in) a different time , however if we wish to (truly) learn from the ways of Ali (peace be with him), one of the most important points is to refer to the actions that this honorable man did not do even to the slightest, even though he could have (easily done so for his advantage and interests).

🔹Ali (peace be with him) in times of battle, during the peak of victory and domination, did not block the source of water to enemy forces; and while sword fighting and/or shield defending, he did not ask for his elite soldiers to cover and protect him (fought bravely like a warrior alone); and he did not slip (or escape) due to fear of losing his life;

🔹Ali did not allow any excess praise (about him) to make a difference to him. He never surrounded himself to the social circles of ego-centered persons and never made a lens of perceiving the world from their outlook.

🔹He never limited himself only with his “close-ones”, nor did he ever make them his “special-ones”.

🔹He was never negligent of realities (and occurrences behind the veil), and he never sought the aid from superstitions.

🔹He never behaved fraudulently with anyone, nor did he see any of his opponents with bias and prejudice.

🔹He never created space between himself and the poor, nor did he build a palace. He did not use the public treasury even for matters such as the grave of Prophet Mohammad and Sayyida Zahra (peace be with them both and their progeny), in that he did not make a shrine with flower hands, and a tomb enclosing their graves, though a vault and porch were necessary (and he did make that using public funds).

🔹He never boasted and showed off to someone because of his sacrifices and all (noble) abilities. Never boasted, nor stressed (about worldly affairs) and (never expressed undue) anger. He never showed off his piety for his publicity, and never dressed like rulers and caliphs.

🔹Nor did he sell anyone's reputation (or his own) to others. He did not display his asceticism (and piety) to the public)

🔹He never conceived of others or himself to be the criterion for the truth, nor did he see himself as (more knowledgeable and non-criticizable).

🔹He accepted the problems of society. And he never denied accepting his duties and responsibilities.

🔹(He took a covenant with himself to straighten the matters that plagued society and never unburdened societal responsibilities (that came as a result of being the ruler) from his shoulders).

🔹He preferred commonness over cleverness (meaning that he lowered himself to the level of common folk and did not use his profound intellect, and wisdom to trick the people).

🔹During wars, he never made his sons, relatives, or close ones to escape danger.

🔹He did not give special treats/treatment (even) to his blind, poor brother (just because he was his kin).

🔹He did not neglect the past (hardships of servitude or past life) of his servants.

🔹He did not ignore the minority’s rights.

🔹He did not snatch significance and importance for himself.

🔹He did not consider hard work as strenuous (disrespectful). He worked for a Jew (on his garden) and did not sense any dishonor and insignificance at all in it. (When he had a Jew working for him) he did not disregard the old Jewish man with negligence.

🔹He never considered work/labor that was lower than his dignity or rank to be cheap (or below his social rank).

🔹During political isolation, he never considered the culture and time (of that era) as blameworthy, nor was he hopeless in life and rebuilding of civilization....

💠 He (jibraeel) said: 'it means that one should never be displeased with his Master, whether he gets (the comforts) of the world or not, and not be happy with one's few good deeds'.

🍃 I said: 'and what is the meaning of abstinence?'
💠 He (jibraeel) said: 'that one loves whatever his Creator loves and hates whatever his Creator hates, and is very careful about what is lawful and does not glance at what is unlawful; for what is lawful is to be accounted for and what is unlawful will entail punishment. He is merciful to all Muslims and he is merciful to himself. He avoids useless speech just as he avoids a corpse with an intensely foul smell. He avoids possessions and embellishments of this world just as he keeps away from fire -- ensuring that it does not cover him. He has no great (worldly) hopes or desires and he always remembers (the inevitable occurrence) of his death'.

🍃 I said: 'oh Jibreel, and what is the meaning of sincerity?'
💠 He (jibraeel) said: 'a sincere person is one who does not ask for anything from people until he obtains it (himself) and whenever he obtains it, he is pleased with it. If something extra remains with him, he gives it in the way of Allah. By not asking for anything from others, he has shown that he is truly a servant of Allah. If he obtains what he wants, he becomes happy and is pleased with Allah, and Allah the Almighty is pleased with him. When he gives from it in the way of Allah, he has reached the stage of fully relying on his Lord'.

🍃 I said: 'And what is certainty'?
💠 He (jibraeel) said: 'a man with certainty performs actions for the sake of Allah as though he sees Him. Even if he does not see Allah, he knows Allah sees him; and he is certain that what is coming to him (by the will of Allah') will not pass by him, and what is not meant to be for him will not come to him. These are all branches of trust in Allah' and abstinence'".

Imam Al-Husein peace be with him wanted to liberate the people who were enslaved by the rulers, and therefore the revolution of Imam Al-Husein peace be with himwas launched based on this humanitarian aspect in order to achieve freedom for the entire mankind.

The dimensions of Imam Al-Husein's revolution:

As we read through the narration of Imam Al-Husein peace be with him, we see that when he went out to the battle to fight those who came to fight him, and when he saw his opponents invading the tents of the women, he addressed them saying: "O You the followers of Abu Sifyan, if you do not follow a religion, and if you do not fear the Judgment day, be free in your lives and return to your origins if you were Arabs."

Imam Al-Husein peace be with him raised two issues here. The first is that he laid emphasis to the freedom of man when he said: If you do not abide by religious values and you do not believe in a creed, at least be free. The free man is the one who does not sell himself or his position or opinion in return for money or positions. Do not be slaves, because you are fighting to obey those who enslave you.

The second issue he raised is that Imam peace be with him tried to provoke in them the feelings of Arabism which Islam approved: "Be Arabs", not in terms of the narrow nationalism, but on the basis of the values the Arabs lived, which Islam adopted some of them and eliminated others. This discourse is not addressed to the followers of Abu Sufyan in particular, but to every human being.

On the humanitarian level, we also read his speech when he was asked to give legitimacy to Yazid. He said: "The illegitimate, son of the illegitimate, has settled between two: between unsheathing [the sword] and humiliation, and how impossible is humiliation from us." So it is about being honored in all your life. Imam As-Sadiq peace be with him was quoted as saying upon interpreting the following Quranic verse: "God has the glory and His Prophet and the believers." (63:08) Imam As-Sadiq peace be with him said: "God has allowed the believer to run all his affairs, but he did not authorize him to humiliate himself." Glory is based on power: "The power is wholly Allah's". (02:165). So, to be honorable is to be strong and defending you humanity and freedom.

Then he said: "Do not you see that no one abides by the right and everyone embarks on the wrong?" He is talking about the righteousness which people should abide by, and righteousness is the concept that exists in all the issues of human beings, which ascend his position at the individual, political and social levels.

Therefore, we have to present Ashoura to the entire world in its humanitarian aspect, rather than restricting it to a sectarian aspect because Imam Al-Husein peace be with him is the imam of all Muslims and he obtained his Imamate from Prophet Muhammad (p.) with whom Al-Husein peace be with him lived his early childhood. He also lived with his mother, Sayyeda Az-Zahra and his father Ali peace be with him. So, he enjoyed all the elements and characters of spiritual faith these figures enjoyed. Prophet Muhammad (p.) said: "Husein is from me, and I am from Husein", which reveals the spiritual integration between the Prophet (p.) and Al-Husein peace be with him.

The values of reform in the revolution of Imam Al-Husein peace be with him:

Imam Al-Husein peace be with him said: "I revolted neither for wickedness nor for fame. Verily I rose only to seek for reform in the nation of my grandfather; the messenger of Allah." He did not speak about a certain family or region, but about the entire nation, because he was shouldering the responsibility of the whole nation through his Imamate. "I want to enjoin good and forbid wrong and evil", he said. So, he noticed the deviant situation of the nation, because the rule prevailing at that time damaged the humanitarian aspect of the people who used to love Imam Al-Husein peace be with him and his family, but at the same time, they were fighting to earn money or obtain a certain position in the authority, such as Omar Bin

Things that Imam Ali (peace be with him) did NOT do...

Our arguments (in defense of) Imam Ali is mostly about his sayings and beautiful actions, and we hardly speak or hear about what he did not say and what he did not do. We have taken his general traits for granted, such that anyone can easily apply those generalities and place themselves in the shoes of this (most) prominent man in (the pages of) history, where we attempt to rival him.

I've criticized (the concept of) introducing individuals like Imam Ali and (the concept of being unable to be like him in) a different time , however if we wish to (truly) learn from the ways of Ali (peace be with him), one of the most important points is to refer to the actions that this honorable man did not do even to the slightest, even though he could have (easily done so for his advantage and interests).

Ali (peace be with him) in times of battle, during the peak of victory and domination, did not block the source of water to enemy forces; and while sword fighting and/or shield defending, he did not ask for his elite soldiers to cover and protect him (fought bravely like a warrior alone); and he did not slip (or escape) due to fear of losing his life;

Ali did not allow any excess praise (about him) to make a difference to him. He never surrounded himself to the social circles of ego-centered persons and never made a lens of perceiving the world from their outlook.

He never limited himself only with his “close-ones”, nor did he ever make them his “special-ones”.

He was never negligent of realities (and occurrences behind the veil), and he never sought the aid from superstitions.

He never behaved fraudulently with anyone, nor did he see any of his opponents with bias and prejudice.

He never created space between himself and the poor, nor did he build a palace. He did not use the public treasury even for matters such as the grave of Prophet Mohammad and Sayyida Zahra (peace be with them both and their progeny), in that he did not make a shrine with flower hands, and a tomb enclosing their graves, though a vault and porch were necessary (and he did make that using public funds).

He never boasted and showed off to someone because of his sacrifices and all (noble) abilities. Never boasted, nor stressed (about worldly affairs) and (never expressed undue) anger. He never showed off his piety for his publicity, and never dressed like rulers and caliphs.

(nor did he sell anyone's reputation (or his own) to others. He did not display his asceticism (and piety) to the public)

He never conceived of others or himself to be the criterion for the truth, nor did he see himself as (more knowledgeable and non-criticizable)

Things that Imam Ali (peace be with him) did NOT do...

Part Two

He accepted the problems of society. And he never denied accepting his duties and responsibilities.

(He took a covenant with himself to straighten the matters that plagued society and never unburdened societal responsibilities (that came as a result of being the ruler) from his shoulders).

He preferred commonness over cleverness (meaning that he lowered himself to the level of common folk and did not use his profound intellect, and wisdom to trick the people).

During wars, he never made his sons, relatives, or close ones to escape danger.

He did not give special treats/treatment (even) to his blind, poor brother (just because he was his kin).

He did not neglect the past (hardships of servitude or past life) of his servants.

He did not ignore the minority’s rights.

He did not snatch significance and importance for himself.

He did not consider hard work as strenuous (disrespectful). He worked for a Jew (on his garden) and did not sense any dishonor and insignificance at all in it. (When he had a Jew working for him) he did not disregard the old Jewish man with negligence.

He never considered work/labor that was lower than his dignity or rank to be cheap (or below his social rank).

During political isolation, he never considered the culture and time (of that era) as blameworthy, nor was he hopeless in life and rebuilding of civilization....

PROPHET'S HISTORIC GHADIR SERMON

PART IV

O people! Prefer him (' Ali) over all others! There is no knowledge except that Allah has divulged it to me, and all the knowledge I have learned I have divulged to Imam al-Muttaqin (leader of the righteous), and there is no knowledge (that I know) except that I divulged it to' Ali, and he is al-Imam al-Mubin (the evident Imam) whom Allah mentions in Surat ya-Sin: "... and everything We have computed is in (the knowledge of) an evident Imam" (Qur'an, 36:12).

O people! Do not abandon him, nor should you flee away from him, nor should you be too arrogant to accept his authority, for he is the one who guides to righteousness and who acts according to it. He defeats falsehood and prohibits others from acting according to it, accepting no blame from anyone while seeking to please Allah. He is the first to believe in Allah and in His Messenger; none preceded him as such. And he is the one who offered his life as a sacrifice for the Messenger of Allah and who was in the company of the Messenger of Allah while no other man was. He is the first of all people to offer prayers and the first to worship Allah with me. I ordered him, on behalf of Allah, to sleep in my bed, and he did, offering his life as a sacrifice for my sake.

O people! Prefer him (over all others), for Allah has preferred him, and accept him, for Allah has appointed him (as your leader).

O people! He is an Imam appointed by Allah, and Allah shall never accept the repentance of anyone who denies his authority, nor shall He forgive him; this is a must decree from Allah never to do so to anyone who opposes him, and that He shall torment him with a most painful torment for all time to come, for eternity; so, beware lest you should oppose him and thus enter the fire the fuel of which is the people and the stones prepared for the unbelievers.

O people! By Allah! All past prophets and messengers conveyed the glad tiding of my advent, and I, by Allah, am the seal of the prophets and of the messengers and the argument against all beings in the heavens and on earth. Anyone who doubts this commits apostasy similar to that of the early jahiliyya, and anyone who doubts anything of what I have just said doubts everything which has been revealed to me, and anyone who doubts any of the Imams doubts all of them, and anyone who doubts us shall be lodged in the fire.

O people! Allah, the most Exalted and the Almighty, has bestowed this virtue upon me out of His kindness towards' Ali and as a boon to' Ali and there is no god but He; to Him all praise belongs in all times, for eternity, and in all circumstances.

O people! Prefer' Ali (over all others), for he is the very best of all people after me, be they males or females, so long as Allah sends down His sustenance, so long as there are beings. Cursed and again cursed, condemned and again condemned, is anyone who does not accept this statement of mine and who does not agree to it. Gabriel himself has informed me of the same on behalf of Allah Almighty Who he said (in Gabriel's words): " Anyone who antagonizes' Ali and refuses to accept his wilayat shall incur My curse upon him and My wrath." "... and let every soul consider what it has sent forth for the morrow, and be careful of (your duty to) Allah" (Qur'an, 59:18), "And do not make your oaths a means of deceit between you lest a foot should slip after its stability" (Qur'an, 16:94), " Allah is fully aware of all what you do" (Qur'an, 58: 13).

O people! He (' Ali) is janb-Allah mentioned in the Book of Allah, the Sublime One: The Almighty, forewarning his (' Ali's) adversaries, says, "Lest a soul should say: O woe unto me for what I fell short of my duty to Allah, and most surely I was of those who laughed to scorn" (Qur'an, 39:56).
