The Merits of Fasting and the Month of Ramadan
(Mohammad Ali Shomali)
The significance of fasting Islam can be deduced from many
verses of The Holy Qur'an. For example, the verses 2:45 reads:
And take recourse in patience andprayer,
and it is indeed hard except for the humble.
Based on several narrations, "patience" has been interpreted as
fasting due to the fact that fasting, consisting of abandoning certain acts such as eating and drinking for part of the day is one of the best forms of patience. Muslims have been advised by the narrations to resort to fasting when confronted with challenging problems and difficulties.
Although fasting is deeply connected to the month of Ramadan, it is an important act of worship by itself that cab be performed outside Ramadan as well. Except for two forbidden days, fasting is a recommended deed throughout the year, especially in certain
months such as Rajab and Sha'ban and on certain days such as
Mondays and Thursdays. Moreover the month of Ramadan, regardless of fasting, provides a great opportunity to give even to
those upon whom fasting is not incumbent an opportunity to benefit from countless merits of this month. Interestingly, this opportunity is not confined to mature people, for Islamic narrations state that a fetus in his/her mother's womb or an immature child can participate in this banquet of Allah (SWT). Furthermore, sleeping is not regarded as an impediment for one's share of the excellence of the month of Ramadan.
Month of Ramadan as described by the Holy Prophet of Islam
In a well-known sermon delivered by the Holy Prophet of Islam
(S) in the last Friday of the month of Sha'ban, he emphasized:
Oh people! Month of Allah has come
toward you bringing divine blessing,
mercy and forgiveness.1
The subtle point in this phrase is the fact that these three divine
offerings are not granted to the people at the end of this month;
rather, these are the special gifts of the month of Ramadan from
the very day it begins.
The Holy prophet continued:
This is the month in which you have
been invited to the banquet of Allah.2
According to the wording of the above phrase, people are"invited" to this banquet. Therefore, in order for one to enter such an auspicious banquet, he should accept this invitation and act upon it.
Generally speaking, while "banquet" is understood as requiring something to eat, drink and may also include some kind of
entertainment, the "banquet of Allah" is essentially different.
Fasting is a condition for one in order to receive the special gifts
granted by Allah (SWT) in this banquet.
Essential elements of a banquet
For grasping the character of divine banquest, we should first
note that every banquet consists of four essential elements:
1. When you are invited you will not be rejected. Thus, the host is expected to welcome his guest; otherwise, an “invitation" is meaningless when the invitee is denied of reception. Accordingly, when Allah (SWT) invites His servants to the banquet of Ramadan, the gates of His mercy will be opened to those who accept the invitation.
2. When you enter the venue of the banquet, you will be treated with honor and respect. Although every person who has been let in is not competent of being respected, the same is not true for the one who has been invited as a guest. In light of this fact, one may understand the following statement in the above-mentioned sermon:
In this month, you are made of those
people whom Allah respects and honours.3
3. When you go to a banquet you will be given or shown something without payment. In other words, you expect to gain something without return. Correspondingly, in the banquet of Ramadan, Allah (SWT) not only rewards our actions gernerously, but also entertains His guests with various bounties without them doing something so much so that He counts the sleep of His guests as an act of worship and their breaths as His glorification, as explicitly stated in the same sermon:
Your breaths in it (the month of Rama1an)
are glorification (of God) and your sleep in it is worship.4
4. When you are invited to a party, you naturally expect to meet the host and consider his absence as a humiliation. Accordingly, when Allah (SWT) invites His servant to His banquet, by nature, He is ready to show Himself to His guests and meet them.
"This is the month in which you have been invited to the banquet
of Allah.." This part of the sermon inspires the fact that this blessing has been dedicated to the month of Ramadan. The Holy Prophet of Islam added:
In the sight of Allah, this month is the
best month, its days are the best days,
its nights are the best nights and its hours
are the best hours.5
Although this month's prominence over others involves that its days, nights and hours are the best as well, by mentioning these three phrases independently, the Prophet emphasized that every portion of this month is better than its counterpart in every other month.
Recommendations for the month of Ramadan
The sermon continues by several instructions:
Oh people! The gates of heaven are
open in this month. So ask your Lord
not to close them.6
The phrase, ‘the gates of heaven being open’ has at least two meanings:
(1) The chance of the one to deserve entering heaven is more in this blessed month than the other months.
(2) Due to the openness of heaven’s gates, all kinds of divine mercy in heaven are ready to encompass the servants in tis world, angels are permitted to come to their presence and the breeze of heaven blow into this world. These make the sleep and breaths of the faithful in the month of Ramadan like the inhabitants of heaven glorification of God and worship.
Although the gates of heaven are open, the Holy Prophet warns people that if they do not appreciate such a great opportunity,
subsequently Allah (SWT) will close them. The situation of the
gates of fire is quite the contrary:
And the gates of the fire are closed. So ask your Lord not to open them.7
Along these lines, the condition of satans is described as follows:
And satans are in chains. So ask your Lord not to dominate them over you.8
Although Satan and his assistants are chained up in this month,
committing sins results in releasing them. Therefore, while the
month of Ramadan is the best month in itself, for a group of
people, this month is worse than the other months just as the Holy
Qur'an is "a cure and mercy for the faithful; and it increases the
wrongdoers only in loss" (17:82).
The fourth Holy Imam, Imam Sajjad, (A) in his farewell
supplication for the holy month of Ramadan declares:
Oh month of Ramadan! Peace be upon
you! How long you were for
wrongdoers and how awesome you
were in the hearts of the faithful!
(Al-Sahifah Al-Sajjādiyyah, supplication no. 45)
As implied by this supplication and as proved by the experience,
the month of Ramadan, for those who do not fast deliberately and
without any religious excuse, seems like a whole year and every
moment of it is a kind of torture for them. On the contrary, those
who do their best to appreciate this month find it passing quickly
and are concerned about losing a second without taking the full
benefit of it.
Another instruction offered by the Holy Prophet in his
Sh‘baniyyah sermon is:
When you feel hungry and thirsty in
this month remember the hunger and
thirst of the Day of Judgment.9
Tolerating thirst and hunger in this world is so difficult. We must
then ponder upon the fact that the thirst and hunger in the
hereafter last for years and years or for some groups of people
forever. Additionally, in this world, death may be regarded as a
solution for intolerable thirst and hunger, but in the next world,
eternal life turns this solution into a useless one. In this regard,
Chapter 43 Verse 77 reads:
They will call out," O Mālik! [the name
of the guardian of the hell] Let your
Lord finish us off!" He will say,"
Indeed you will stay on.

💠 Pets in Islamic lifestyle:
🔸Pigeon
In Islamic lifestyle some pets are highly recommended to be kept at home because of their spritual and other benefits.
For example dogs are not supposed to be kept at home.
💠Imam Ali says: "there is no benefit in keeping dogs except the hunter and guard dogs (used to protect the flock"
And of course these dogs are supposed to be kept outside.
🔸But about pigeons there are plenty of Ahadith recommending to keep them.
🔺Some scholars believe that some specific diseases such as M.S, Parkinsonism, Madness, etc are caused by Jins, when they get close to human being.
One of the ways to keep the Jins away is keeping pigeons at home according to the Ahadith.
💠Abdul Karim bin salih says:
I was in the presence of Imam Sadiq and I saw 3 pigeons are on his bed and they made it dirty by their poop. I told Imam about that, he replied: "it's OK, it's good to have them in the house"
💠Imam Sadiq says:
"Pigeons are the birds which the prophets used to keep them at home and in the house where they stay, the evils of Jins will not disturb the members of that house."
🔺Unlike pigeons, roosters and sparrows, Cuckoo is a bird which according to some Ahadith is not supposed to be kept at home nor should let them build their house on our environment as they cause spritual troubles.

Imam Sadiq (peace be with him) quoted on the authority of his fathers upon the authority of Imam Ali (peace be with him) that God's last Prophet said:
“One of the signs of certitude is that you do not displease God to please the people, and do not admire the people for the daily food that God has granted you through them, and that you do not blame the people for God depriving you of your daily bread.
No one's greed will bring him an increase in his daily sustenance, and no one's jealousy will stop one's daily bread.
If one tries to escape from his daily bread as he escapes from death, one's food seeks its owner faster than death does.
In fact, God the Almighty has established comfort and peace of mind in certitude and contentment, and has established sorrow and discomfort in anger and doubt.”

🌻Allamah Muhammad Hussayn Tabātabā'i':
🔹"Consciousness and perception, which are intertwined with man's very being, make evident by their very nature the existence of God as well as the world. For, contrary to those who express doubt about their own existence and everything else and consider the world as illusion and fantasy, we know that a human being at the moment of his coming into existence, when he is already conscious and possesses perception, discovers himself and the world. That is to say, he has no doubt that “He exists and things other than he exist." As long as man is man this comprehension and knowledge exist in him and cannot be doubted, nor do they undergo any change.
🔹The perception of this reality and existence which man affirms through his intelligence, in opposition to the views of the sophist and skeptic, is immutable and can never be proven false. That is to say, the claim of the sophist and the skeptic which negates reality can never be true, because of man's very existence. There is within the immense world of existence a permanent and abiding reality which pervades it and which reveals itself to the intelligence.
🔹Yet each of the phenomena of this world which possesses the reality that We discover as conscious and perceiving human beings loses its reality sooner or later and becomes nonexistent. From this fact itself it is evident that the visible world and its parts are not the essence of reality (which can never be obliterated or destroyed). Rather, they rely upon a permanent Reality through which they gain reality and by means of which they enter into existence. As long as they are connected and attached to it they possess existence and as soon as they are cut off from it they become nonexistent.
🔹We call this Immutable Reality, which is imperishable (that is Necessary Being), God".

The Qur’an in Islam
Part lV
By Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Mohammad Husain Tabatabai (Blessings of God with him)
From this we may conclude that only God is empowered to make laws, since the only laws useful to man are those which are made according to his inherent nature.
It also follows that man's needs, arising from his outward circumstance and his inner reality, are fulfilled only by obeying God's instructions (or laws). These needs may arise through events beyond man's control or as a result of the natural demands of his body. Both are encompassed in the plan of life that God has designated for man. For, as the Qur'an says...
"The command is for none but God"
Joseph: 40 and 67 (transition Yusuf Ali)
which is to say that there is no governance (of man or society, of the inner or the outer) except that of God. Without a specific creational plan, based on the innate disposition of man, life would be fruitless and without meaning. We may understand this only through belief in God and a knowledge of his Unity, as explained in the Qur'an.
From here we may proceed to an understanding of the Day of Judgment, when man is rewarded or punished according to his deeds. Thereafter, we may arrive at knowledge of the prophets and of prophetic teachings, since man cannot be judged without being first instructed in the matter of obedience and disobedience. These three fundamental teachings are considered to be the roots of the Islamic way of life.
To these we may add the fundamentals of good character and morals which a true believer must possess, and which are a necessary extension of the three basic beliefs mentioned above. The laws governing daily activity not only guarantee man's happiness and moral character but, more importantly, increase his understanding of these beliefs and of the fundamentals of Islam.
It is not clear that a thief, a traitor, a squanderer or a libertine do not possess the quality of innocence; nor can a miser, who hoards money, be called a generous person. Similarly, some- one who never prays or remembers God cannot be called a believer in God and the Last Day, nor be described as His servant.
From this we may conclude that good character flourishes when joined to a pattern of correct actions; morals are to be found in the man whose beliefs are in harmony with these fundamentals. A proud man cannot be expected to believe in God nor be humble in respect to the Divine; nor can the man, who has never understood the meaning of humanity, justice, mercy or compassion, believe in the Day of Rising and the Judgment.

Salaam,
Insha'Allah all is well. Apologies for the late response. I wanted to have time to write this in detail.
I looked up the provider of the news report "America's Daily report" and all I could find was something called "America's Voice" which seems to be a right-wing media outlet which tends to spend its efforts defending Trump and being anti-immigrant.
After looking up this Shiva Ayyudurai, it seems that he's a known con-artist who seems to be an opportunist, making stories up about how he created email. He himself is not a doctor and is trained in biological engineering.
In the interview, Ayyadurai says a few things that are half-truths, but then to be very misleading.
He states that Fauci and Birx (the doctors who are advising the president) are working to strengthen big pharma. At this point, Fauci and Birx are not recommending any pharmaceutical treatment for coronavirus, so I'm not sure where Ayyadurai is making these conclusions. The virus is spread through respiratory droplets, it is extremely infectious, and it has been causing death worldwide. We are all prone to it, and the only way to reduce spread is to minimize exposure.
Ayyadurai says: "The medical school educaiton is a big pharma education. They are taught 'if this, then this' which is usually a pharmaceutical invervention". For the vast majority of interventions, medical doctors are trained to be as conservative as possible initially, providing natural cures such as exercise, improving diets, avoiding antibiotics for viral infections (which patients often demand). Only when things are at a dangerous point (such as if somebody has very elevated blood pressure, if somebody has very high cholesterol, if somebody is anemic, if somebody has heart disease, if somebody has poorly controlled diabetes), then medications are recommended. Many of these medications have natural sources, but many of them are synthetically created within a laboratory environment. In order for medications to be released to the public, they have to go through many years of trials, initially on non-human subjects and slowly to humans. The companies are definitely profit driven, but the medications that they recommend are based on research that are evidence based. After a medication is widely available, many third parties that have no financial incentive also perform research to assess for different side effects and if the medications are truly beneficial.
Ayyadurai states that Fauci: architected the big lie that HIV is responsible for AIDS. it's a much deeper discusison.... it's the suppression of the immune system." So AIDS is caused by a virus called HIV that reduces the immune system to dangerously low levels, exposing people to very dangerous and before AIDS, rare, infections. The way that AIDS is treated is that, through years of research, certain antivirals have been created to substantially reduce the viral load and the effectiveness of HIV, making people with the disease live normal lives. If HIV has nothing to do with AIDS, how is it that antivirals that treat HIV have saved people from AIDS? He does not seem to have any idea of what he's talking about, honestly.
Ayyudurai states: "When Obama was running, you had nearly 60k deaths with H1n1, here we have 6k-10k deaths, and we don't even know what the numerator and denominator here." So I'm not sure when the video was made, but from my research, worldwide it seems that there are about 18,000 deaths from h1n1. From coronavirus, so far, there have been 153,000 deaths. Ayyadurai has no understanding in public health or epidemiology to be able to comprehend that these specialists are concerned with the POTENTIAL for more deaths instead of looking purely at the numbers.
Ayyadurai states that in hospitals, we have "See drops in pneumonia and the flu, totally cooking of the books". This is false. We rule out influenza before even ordered the test for COVID-19.
