PROPHET'S HISTORIC GHADlR SERMON (Part One)
All Praise is due to Allah Who is Exalted in His Unity, Near in His Uniqueness, Sublime in His Authority, Magnanimous in His Dominance. He knows everything; He subdues all creation through His might and evidence. He is Praised always and forever, Glorified and has no end. He begins and He repeats, and to Him every matter is referred.
Allah is the Creator of everything; He dominates with His power the earth and the heavens. Holy, He is, and Praised, the Lord of the angels and of the spirits. His favours overwhelm whatever He creates, and He is the Mighty over whatever He initiates.
He observes all eyes while no eye can observe Him. He is Generous, Clement, Patient. His mercy encompasses everything, and so is His giving. He never rushes His revenge, nor does He hasten the retribution they deserve. He comprehends what the breast conceals and what the conscience hides. No inner I thought can be concealed from Him, nor does He confuse one with another.
He encompasses everything, dominates everything, and subdues everything. Nothing is like Him. He initiates the creation from nothing; He is everlasting, living, sustaining in the truth; there is no god but He, the Omnipotent, the Wise One.
He is greater than can be conceived by visions, while He conceives all visions, the Eternal, the Knowing. None can describe Him by seeing Him, nor can anyone find out how He is, be it by his intellect or by a spoken word except through what leads to Him, the Sublime, the Mighty that He is.
I testify that He is Allah, the One Who has filled time with His Holiness, the One Whose Light overwhelms eternity, Who effects His will without consulting anyone; there is no partner with Him in His decisions, nor is He assisted in running His affairs.
He shaped what He made without following a preexisting model, and He created whatever He created without receiving help from anyone, nor did doing so exhaust Him nor frustrated His designs. He created, and so it was, and He initiated, and it became visible. So He is Allah, the One and Only God, the One Who does whatever He does extremely well.
He is the Just One Who never oppresses, the most Holy to Whom all affairs are referred.
I further testify that He is Allah before Whom everything is humbled, to Whose Greatness everything is humiliated, and to Whose Dignity everything submits. He is the King of every domain and the One Who places planets in their orbits.
He controls the movements of the sun and of the moon, each circles till a certain time. He makes the night follow the day and the day follow the night, seeking it incessantly. He splits the spine of every stubborn tyrant and annihilates every mighty devil.
Never has there been any opponent opposing Him nor a peer assisting Him. He is Independent; He never begets nor is He begotten, and none can ever be His equal. He is One God, the Glorified Lord. His will is done; His word is the law. He knows, so He takes account.
He causes death and gives life. He makes some poor and others rich. He causes some to smile and others to cry .He brings some nearer to Him while distancing others from Him. He withholds and He gives. The domain belongs to Him and so is all the Praise. In His hand is all goodness, and He can do anything at all.
He lets the night cover the day and the day cover the night; there is no god but He, the Sublime, the oft-Forgiving One. He responds to the supplication; He gives generously; He computes the breath; He is the Lord of the jinns and of mankind, the One Whom nothing confuses, nor is He annoyed by those who cry for His help, nor is He fed-up by those who persist.
He safeguards the righteous against sinning, and He enables the winners to win. He is the Master of the faithful, the Lord of the Worlds Who deserves the appreciation of all those whom He created and is praised no matter what.

Part ll
🌺 The tragedy of Karbala has an exterior manifestation and an interior kernel. Those who have not covered the first journey, behold the exterior manifestation, and are thus naturally overcome with sorrow and led to perpetual lamentation.
Many of us belong to this category. Such lamentations of sorrow, as we have learnt in our previous discussions, are highly encouraged by the authorities of Islam and have great benefits for every sincere believer. However, if through lamentation and other means taught by Islam, one is able to cover the first journey, he would be overcome with ecstasy and joy when he beholds the inner truths of what happened on the plains of Karbala.
Perhaps it is this dimension that the well-known Ziyarat Ashura alludes to when it teaches us to say in the state of prostration ‘Praise be to Allah for my great calamity’ (alhamdu lillahi ‘ala ‘azimi raziyyati). In other words, we are trying to say, “O Allah we praise you for this great calamity, because its kernel is nothing save beauty and inexpressible delight.”
The late Ayatullah Muhammad Husayn Tehrani points to this inner dimension of the tragedy of Karbala in his famous work ‘The Liberated Soul’ (Ruhe Mujarrad) when he discusses about the states experienced by his spiritual mentor Sayyid Hashim Haddad who once upon a time would be extremely happy during the days of Muharram and weep tears of joy and ecstasy.
Ayatullah Tehrani quotes him saying: ‘Ashura is the climax of love! It is the most splendid manifestation of God’s beauty and majesty together. It is the best reflection of the Divine Names of mercy and wrath in the same event.
For the Ahl al-Bayt (‘a), it was nothing but completing the stages and degrees of their journey, reaching the pinnacle of eternity, freedom from the facades, realization of the true Source behind all these appearances, and absolute annihilation in the Essence of the One. [‘Allamah Tehrani, Liberated Soul (Tr. By T Raja), p.58]. In the same book, he also says: ‘Agha Haddad [his spiritual mentor] used to cry a lot during the first ten days of Muharram, but his cry was out of love and zeal. Sometimes he was so excited and exuberant that his tears would flow down onto his noble beard. It was as if his face was a downspout where a rain of love and mercy flowed.’ [p. 59 of the same work].
Thereafter in this work the author says that this state of Sayyid Haddad was when he had ended the first spiritual journey, which is ‘from the creation to God’ and was immersed in the second journey (which is traversing in the Attributes of God) in the state of annihilation in God. But when he had completed the fourth spiritual journey which in the jargon of the mystical scholars is called ‘subsistence in God after annihilation’ (al-baqa’ bi Allah ba‘d al-fana’), he would weep both out of sorrow and ecstasy. In such a level the mystic gives every plane of existence its due right, and acts according to the respective level.

🌺 In Ma'ani al-Akhbar: In his tradition from Ahmad ibn Abi Abdillah from his father, in a Hadith attributed to the noble Prophet (peace be with him and his progeny) that he said:
"Jibraeel (Angel Gabriel) came to me and said: 'O Prophet of Allah! Allah has sent me to you with a gift which He has not given to anyone before you'.
The noble Prophet asked:
🍃'what is it?'
💠 Jibraeel replied: 'it is patience, and something better than it'.
🍃 He asked: 'and what is that?'.
💠 Jibraeel replied: 'it is satisfaction, and something better than it'.
🍃 He asked: 'and what is that?'
💠 Jibraeel said: 'it is abstinence; and that which is better than it'.
🍃 He said: 'and what is that?'
💠 Jibraeel said: 'it is sincerity; and something better than that'.
🍃 He said: 'and what is that?'
💠 Jibraeel said: 'it is certainty; and something better than it'.
🍃 The Noble Prophet (then) said: 'i said: "what is that O' Jibraee!"
💠 He said: 'the way to attain all of them is to trust in Allah'.
🍃 I said: 'oh Jibraeel, what is the meaning of trusting in Allah?'
💠 He said: knowing that creation can neither cause harm nor benefit and can neither give nor withhold (anything), and having no hope (of getting anything from creation). When the servant reaches this state, he does not do anything save for Allah, and he neither desires nor fears anyone but Allah, and he does not set his hopes on anyone except Allah. This is is the meaning of trusting in Allah'.
🍃 The noble Prophet said: I said: 'oh Jibraeel, what is the meaning of patience?'.
💠 He replied: 'one must be forebearing and patient in times of affliction as he is in times of joy, and in poverty as he is in wealth, and in calamity as he is in comfort; without complaining of his condition because of what has befallen him'.
🍃 I said: 'and what is the meaning of contentment?'
💠 He (jibraeel) said: 'to be pleased with whatever comes to him in this world, being content with whatever little he has and thanking Allah for it'.
🍃 I said: 'and what is the meaning of satisfaction?'
💠 He (jibraeel) said: 'it means that one should never be displeased with his Master, whether he gets (the comforts) of the world or not, and not be happy with one's few good deeds'.
🍃 I said: 'and what is the meaning of abstinence?'
💠 He (jibraeel) said: 'that one loves whatever his Creator loves and hates whatever his Creator hates, and is very careful about what is lawful and does not glance at what is unlawful; for what is lawful is to be accounted for and what is unlawful will entail punishment. He is merciful to all Muslims and he is merciful to himself. He avoids useless speech just as he avoids a corpse with an intensely foul smell. He avoids possessions and embellishments of this world just as he keeps away from fire -- ensuring that it does not cover him. He has no great (worldly) hopes or desires and he always remembers (the inevitable occurrence) of his death'.
🍃 I said: 'oh Jibreel, and what is the meaning of sincerity?'
💠 He (jibraeel) said: 'a sincere person is one who does not ask for anything from people until he obtains it (himself) and whenever he obtains it, he is pleased with it. If something extra remains with him, he gives it in the way of Allah. By not asking for anything from others, he has shown that he is truly a servant of Allah. If he obtains what he wants, he becomes happy and is pleased with Allah, and Allah the Almighty is pleased with him. When he gives from it in the way of Allah, he has reached the stage of fully relying on his Lord'.
🍃 I said: 'And what is certainty'?
💠 He (jibraeel) said: 'a man with certainty performs actions for the sake of Allah as though he sees Him. Even if he does not see Allah, he knows Allah sees him; and he is certain that what is coming to him (by the will of Allah') will not pass by him, and what is not meant to be for him will not come to him. These are all branches of trust in Allah' and abstinence'".

Spiritual Wayfaring Topic 1:
💠 Awakening (Yaqzah): The first step in spiritual wayfaring
🍃 The state of repentance is an extremely noble state and it is important that the weak and sinful servant of Allah continually be in such a state before Him.
🍃 This state is normally achieved after a form of awakening with regards to one’s actions. The scholars of ethics and spirituality say that for self-reform and wayfaring on the path of self-struggle, it is important for one to develop a sense of awareness in the beginning, which is known as “Yaqzah” or the awakening.
🍃 In order to acquire this state, man must pay attention to his position in existence, and deliberate the nature of the relationship between Allah and himself.
🍃 Of course, such states are acquired by everyone during their lives and the sense of awareness is created; however, it is important that man benefit from this awareness on the path of servitude.
🍃 Allah says in a Hadith e Qudsi to Prophet Dawud
💠“Verily, there are breezes for your Lord throughout the days of your life. Beware, and lie in wait for them, and do not refrain (distance yourself) from them."
🍃 One of the forms of awareness is paying attention to learning the Quran from the teachings of the Imams such that one must benefit from them in the best manner, value his time, and alongside acquiring their teachings, take steps toward self-reform.

Spiritual WayfaringTopic 5:
💠 The necessity of hope and belief in God’s acceptance of repentance
🍃 God Almighty has established repentance so that man can constantly work towards reforming himself and if he stumbles (at any point) he does not become afflicted by a state of despair from self-reform, such that he would think: “It is all over! We have no way of reaching the good life (hayāt-e tayyebah) any more...”
🍃 God Almighty has set out different ways for his servants to pay attention to and connect with Him. Since the real life of man, after having committed sins, begins with repentance and observance of the limits and boundaries of God, in order to achieve this real life, a correct spiritual attention towards God is required.
🍃 And from among the most important standpoints is that a servant considers God accepting of himself i.e. accepting of repentance, and believes in His word, where He says:
*«وَهُوَ الَّذِي يَقْبَلُ التَّوْبَةَ عَنْ عِبَادِهِ وَيَعْفُو عَنِ السَّيِّئَاتِ»*
💠“And He is the one who accepts the repentance of His servant and pardons the evils.” [Shoora:25]
🍃 If man does not manage to achieve this perspective and does not have this reliance on God, he will never be pulled towards God. It is because of this that the issue of needing God to turn to His servant has been stated in this supplication and in other supplications, where it says:
💠“Make my heart alive by Your turning to me.”
God Almighty also states in the Holy Quran: _“Then he turned towards them so that they repent.”_ [Tawbah:118]
🍃 Of course, repenting and returning to God does not have special rituals and customs nor does it require cumbersome effort.
🍃 God’s mercy and love is so embracing of His wrongful servants that reconciliation with Him does not require so much effort and pleading and begging.
🍃 Rather, the simple act of acknowledging one’s mistakes, shortcomings, and neglect, accompanied by a sense of shame and embarrassment of them is in itself God’s turning to His servant.
🍃 It is by instilling this awareness that God prevents the continuity of His neglect. It is for this reason that man must value this state and try to meet the conditions of repentance.

#Excerpts_from_Peak_of_Eloquenc_Nahjul_Balagha
📄His Description of a Pious Person
The God-fearing are the people of distinction. Their speech is to the point, their dress is modest, and their gait is humble. They keep their eyes closed to what God has made unlawful for them, and they tune their ears to the knowledge that is beneficial to them. During times of trial, they remain calm. The greatness of the Creator is in their hearts, and everything else appears insignificant to them. To them, Paradise and its enjoyments are as if they are visualizing them. To them, the sufferings and punishment of Hell are as if they are actually witnessing them.
Their hearts are grieved (from seeing the suffering around them), they protect themselves from evil, their bodies are lean (due to fasting and eating less), their needs are few, and their souls are chaste. They endure (hardship of this life) for a brief period, and they, in return, secure lasting bliss (of the Hereafter). It is a beneficial transaction, and God made it available to them. The world tried to allure them, but they did not respond to it. It laid its snare for them, but they avoided it.
During the nights, they recite the Holy Scripture (the Qur’an), and through its recitation they seek spiritual (uplifting and) purification. When they come across a verse describing Paradise, they are attracted to it and visualize it in their imagination. When they come across a verse which contains descriptions of Hell, they feel as though the sounds of Hell are reaching their ears. They prostrate themselves and beseech God, the Sublime, for their deliverance.
They downplay their good deeds. They are quick to accept blame. When someone praises them, they say to themselves, “I know myself better than others, and my Lord knows me better than I know.” They then pray: “O’ God, do not deal with me according to what they say, make me better than what they think of me, and forgive me for (those of my shortcomings) which they do not know.”
The characteristic of the pious one is that he has strength in religion, he has firmness along with leniency, he has faith with conviction, eagerness in (seeking) knowledge, moderation in riches, devotion in worship, gracefulness in deprivation, endurance in hardship, desire for the lawful, and dislike for greed. He performs virtuous deeds but still feels fear (for not doing enough). He thanks and praises God morning and evening. The coolness of his eye lies in the gifts that are everlasting (in the Hereafter), in preference to the things of this world.
His worldly hopes and aspirations are few and simple, his spirit is contented, his meals are small and simple, his religion safe, and his anger is suppressed. Only good is expected from him. Evil is far removed from him. He forgives him who wrongs him, and he gives to him who deprives him. He behaves well with him who behaves ill with him.
He is soft-spoken; indecent speech is far removed from him. His sins are nonexistent and his virtues are ever many. His manner is dignified during calamities; he is patient in times of distress and is thankful (to God) during times of ease. He deals justly with people, even if he dislikes them, and does not commit sins for the sake of his loved ones. He admits truth, even before evidence is brought against him. He does not withhold what is in his custody and does not forget his obligation. He does not give bad names to others, nor does he harm his neighbor. He does not feel happy at the misfortunes of others; he avoids what is wrong and adheres to what is right.
If he is wronged, he endures and lets God take revenge on his behalf. People feel safe from him. He endures hardships in this life for the sake of the life in the Hereafter. His keeping away from others is by way of asceticism and purification, and his nearness to those to whom he is near is by way of kindness. His keeping away from people is not by way of vanity or feeling of superiority, nor is his closeness to them just for show.
