Assuming no prior grammatical knowledge, Understanding Syntax explains and illustrates the major concepts, categories and terminology involved in the study of cross-linguistic syntax. Taking a descriptive viewpoint throughout, the book introduces syntactic typology, syntactic description and the major typological categories found in the languages of the world. Grammatical constructions and relationships between words in a clause are explained and thoroughly illustrated, including word classes and their syntactic properties; case and agreement; grammatical functions such as subject and object, and the passive. Each chapter features in-text and chapter-end exercises to extend the reader’s knowledge of syntactic concepts and argumentation, and the final chapter explains and illustrates the principles involved in writing a brief syntactic sketch of a language. Featuring data from approximately 100 languages, this fourth edition has been fully revised and updated in line with current syntactic theory and description, and checklists have been added to each chapter to further aid comprehension. Understanding Syntax is indispensable for students studying cross-linguistic syntax, language typology, and linguistic fieldwork.

What is Religion?
Origins, Definitions, and Explanations
Series: Numen Book Series, Volume: 81
Editors: Idinopulos and Brian C. Wilson
What is Religion? consists of fourteen essays written by a selection of scholars who represent a wide spectrum of approaches to the acedamic study of religion.
Each of the essays is an effort not only to take stock of the present controversy concerning appropriate methodologies for the study of religion, but also to take one giant step beyond that to formulate a precise definition of religion.
Given the considerable confusion today about what it is exactly that religious studies scholars take to be their subject matter when they presume to professionally teachabout religion, this volume provides a much needed forum for leading scholars to debate and clarify what professors of religious studies understand as the central object or objects under their scrunity.

"The Temple of Silence"
Long ago in Japan, there was a monastery in the tall mountain tops. It was called the "Temple of Silence". In it, students from the village and various areas visited for hours, days, weeks, months, sometimes, a few years, or dedicated their whole lives. It was up to their spiritual emptiness to decide how long they needed to stay refill and learn wisdom.
The grandmaster taught his students the art of silence... Through silence, simply by staring at them.
One day some decades later, down below in the villages of the valley, people heard voices from the "Temple of Silence"!
People who were the students of that monastery were surprised because everyday they would only hear the voice of a few gongs from the temples bell.
After waiting for few hours, they strutted up to see what was going on. As they entered they saw grandmaster's dead body covered with a white cloth.
And then they saw some smart duplicate teachers preaching to the new students the jurisprudence of silence, the philosophy of silence, the ethics of silence, the history of silence, and various other sub-topics upon silence.
Everything was there. However, the only thing lacking from the temples atmosphere was silence itself.

The Mechanism of mystical Knowledge
🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸
🖋Ayatollah Mutahhari States:
💠Some have asked: ‘you have not mentioned anything about the mechanism of Knowledge whose source and tool, according to mystics, are the heart and refinement of the self. Does Knowledge really have a mechanism, or a process of removing impediments along the way?’
💠Since the question is correct and reasonable to our topic, let me address it. One of its functions is that if a person engages in refining his self, his intellect becomes more clear sighted. In a dark hall, for example, we cannot see beyond a few meters. In order to see further, we are in need of light and space. One effect of refinement of the self is that it makes the space clearer for the intellect. But this is not the only function of refinement of the self as the heart also gives inspiration to man.
💠Meanwhile, they have asked about its mechanism. It is a good question. Let me highlight a mere reminder.
💠One of the very subtle issues and a very high and subtle psychological field is a sort of morality known today as ‘dynamic morality’. The mystics (Arifs) have labeled this ‘spiritual wayfaring’ (Sayr Wa sulook), and this is the very mechanism our colleagues want to know, and it is very significant.
💠In their study of the Orient, one of the issues to which the Europeans have given exceptional importance is exactly this one in which the mystics, through what Allamah Iqbal of Lahore called ‘inner experience’, have described the mechanism of the hearts functions as ‘stations and stages’ (manāzil wa marāhil).”
♦️Note: what Ayatollah Mutahhari just explained above relates to the stages and degrees of Knowledge. He highlights a few theories about knowledge having one stage or multiple stages. In explaining the mystic (Irfan) approach, he emphasizes that attaining Knowledge has many stages and stations, through which refinement of the self (tazkiye nafs) is the prescribed method to achieve and pass those stages in order to arrive at the destined station (i.e. insane kamil [perfect man])

🌺 Prophet of God Jesus (peace be with him and his mother) said:
🌺 How can you work for this world when you are provided for therein without work, but not work for the Hereafter when you will not be provided for therein without work?
🌺 Verily, you are bad scholars, who take a salary for their duties and squander their deeds. The doer of a deed hurries to demand its reward, and you hurry to leave this wide world for the dark confines of the grave.
🌺 God forbade you from misdeeds as he ordered you to pray and fast. How can one displeased with his portion and who debases his rank (as a scholar) be counted amongst the people of knowledge?
🌺 When he knows of God's knowledge and power, how can one who accuses God by what He decrees for him and whom nothing can satisfy be counted amongst the people of knowledge? How can one over whom the world holds more sway than the Hereafter, who embraces the world and loves the thing that harms him more than the thing that benefits him be counted amongst the people of knowledge? How can one who seeks knowledge so that he can display it rather than act upon it be counted amongst the people of knowledge?

After considering these facts, can we expect that we can understand all the philosophies of Islamic laws? If this was so, what was the need for prophets? We would sit and correct those things, which we feel right according to our whims and fancies, and would lead a life roaming the deserts.
And on the other side, the question arises: are we aware of the philosophy behind each existence of each creature in the world and about the laws, which govern them? The religious laws are not different from the creation and our knowledge regarding both of them is limited.
From this discussion, we conclude as follows:
In all the ages only those philosophies of the Islamic laws can be understood, which are in the ambit of their knowledge and according to their standard. Basically, we should not expect more because of our limited knowledge and the depth of the laws. We conclude by saying that for following the Islamic laws we cannot put the condition of knowing their philosophies, otherwise it means we are claiming to have unlimited knowledge and we are considering our intelligence equal to Allah’s and this is itself against logic.
In short, the discussions about the hidden logic behind the laws and the right to discuss about them is one thing and to obey these laws is another. The latter is not conditional to former.
We discuss about religious laws to increase our knowledge about their benefits, importance and different effects. We do not discuss these things to decide whether we should practice these laws or not.
It is like asking the doctor about our treatment, about the medicines prescribed; their effects and benefits etc. so that we can acquire more information about these things. However, our taking of medicine is not conditional on his explanation, otherwise it would be necessary that the person should also be a doctor.
It is necessary to keep this point in mind, that the purpose to discuss the secrets and hidden wisdom of the laws to the utmost level is to guess and imagine with fancy ideas the philosophies of the high religious laws. For example if it is said that Azan is the medium to make loud sounds, Prayers is a kind of Swedish exercise and the purpose of fast is to lose weight, Hajj is the means of income for Arabs and prostration (sajdah) and bowing (ruku) are the means to protect the bone’s.
Not at all, this is not the purpose about the Islamic laws, because fancy ideas and imagination not only distract a person from Islamic laws but also reduce their value implying that the Islamic laws are unreliable.

Regarding academic performance, it is regarded as the observable and measurable behavior of students in a particular subject or area at any particular time. Performance tests for example can measure students performance in a particular skill where students grades and scores can tell how well learners performed in such a test or course.an example of this are students' scores in mid-term exams, final exams, etc. On the other hand, academic achievement refers to long term objective of education, what is accomplished, attained and achieved at the end of a course. It is more related to learners proficiency at a particular subject.

Learning how to interpret EKGs was a struggle for me. I remember coming home to a stack of EKGs my father (an interventional cardiologist) had left for me to interpret. I had no idea where to start. I was lost. All I saw were squiggly lines.
I started reading all the introductory books (Dubin’s, Thaler’s, etc.) and any resource I could get my hands on. None of the resources really did it nor did they provide much clinical relevance. I found myself reading textbooks (Chou’s, Marriott’s, etc.) and the medical literature to close the gaps. Ultimately, this was a very inefficient process.
I decided to develop a curriculum for my fellow medical students. I created videos. For some reason, students asked for more. People from around the world asked for more. Eventually there were hundreds of videos. The EKG Guy community was created. And thanks to you, it has now grown to over 750,000 followers in less than 18 months to become the largest, fastest growing ECG community in the world! I soon realized that maybe I was not the only one that struggled to learn EKGs, or at least wanted a better option.
With all that said, it is clear that medical professionals want better ECG learning options and hopefully I’ve provided that. And, maybe I wasn’t the only one struggling after all. I truly hope no one ever struggles learning ECGs again.
I want to thank you for your ongoing support. It means a lot. Thank YOU for helping us transform ECG education to deliver better patient care!
– The EKG Guy (Anthony Kashou, MD)
Overview:
The EKG Guy’s Ultimate EKG Breakdown is designed for individuals with little to no knowledge of the electrocardiogram (EKG, ECG), as well as for more advanced interpreters. This 25+ hour comprehensive course includes over 150 short lectures that cover the most important ECG topics. It is perfect for students, residents, nurses, fellows, paramedics, and other medical professionals where ECG literacy is useful.
The basic concepts and fundamentals will provide a strong ECG foundation as you progress in your career. By the time you complete this lecture series, you will have as much knowledge as most entry-level resident physicians (and cardiology fellows!).
Course Breakdown:
Part I: The Basics
In part I of the course, we look at the basics of the electrocardiogram (ECG, EKG). We discuss the cardiac anatomy and circulation, electrical conduction system of the heart, electrodes and vectors, various aspects of the normal cardiac cycle, along with important concepts to be aware of when interpreting a 12-lead EKG.
Part II: Rhythms
In part II of the course, we look at various rhythms. This portion of the book is broken down into sinus, atrial, atrioventricular, and ventricular rhythms. These topics also include the pathophysiology, mechanism, ECG features, and clinical significance of each rhythm.
Part III: Chamber Enlargement
In part III of the course, we discuss various types of atrial and ventricular enlargement. These topics also include the pathophysiology, mechanism, diagnostic ECG features, and clinical significance of each.
Part IV: Conduction Defects
In part IV of the course, we look at various conduction defects – including, different atrioventricular and intraventricular conduction blocks. These topics also include the pathophysiology, mechanism, ECG features, and clinical significance of each.
Part V: Myocardial Ischemia & Infarction
In part V of the course, we look at myocardial ischemia and infarction. This section includes a basic overview of myocardial ischemia, why ECG findings come about in the setting of ischemia, what changes are considered significant, coronary vascular anatomy, how to localize different coronary artery occlusions and clinical significance, various conduction defects that can come about in setting of myocardial infarction, among other ECG findings in certain ischemic conditions.
