🐎From Thaarallah to Baqiyyatallah

💰Al Makhzoon fi Tasleeyatul Mahzoon has documented that Imam Husayn (a.s.) gathered his fellow travelers who had resolved to go with him to Iraq, and gave each of them ten gold Dinars and a camel for carrying their luggage. He then left Makkah on the 8th of Zilhajj, the day of Tarwiyah. The Imam was accompanied by 82 men among his family, his shi’ah, friends, and retainers.

🐫After reaching a place called Tan’eem, Imam Husayn (a.s.) met a caravan of revenue coming from Yemen. The revenue was sent by Baheer bin Raysan and was to reach the hands of Yazid. As Yazid was an usurper of the caliphate, Imam Husayn confiscated the revenue and said to the drivers of the camels,

🐪“Whoever among you desires to come with us till Iraq can do so, and we shall pay them for it and shall behave well with them. While whoever desires to go back, we shall pay them the cost until here and they can leave”.

😔Imam Husayn (a.s.) then reached Zatul Irq (Malhoof), where he met Bashr bin Ghalib who was coming from Iraq. Imam asked him about the state of people in Iraq. Ghalib replied, “I have seen the people in a state that their hearts are on your side, but their swords are with Bani Umayyah.”

🙏🏾The Imam then said,
“This brother from Bani Asad says the truth, Allah does whatever He desires and orders whatever He wills”.

📜When Imam reached Hajir in Batne Ummah, he had not yet received news of the martyrdom of Muslim bin Aqeel. He sent a messenger to Kufa with a letter stating,

🖤“In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. From Husayn bin Ali to his believer and Muslim brothers. I praise Allah Almighty, besides Whom there is no other Deity. Now then! I have received the letter from Muslim bin Aqeel, informing me regarding the fairness of your intentions and the compliance of your noblemen to assist us and seek our rights. I invoke Allah, the Honorable, the Glorified, that we may face fairness and reward you with the greatest reward. I have left Makkah on Tuesday, the eighth of Zilhajj, the day of Tarwiyyah. When my messenger reaches you, speeden up your task and prepare yourselves that I shall reach you within some days. Peace be upon you and Allah’s Mercy and His Blessings”

Part 3

🐎From Thaarallah to Baqiyyatallah

🔪“You must reveal all their names or ascend the pulpit and curse Hussain son of Ali, his father and his brother, or else I shall dislocate each one of your joints."

🙏🏽The messenger replied, "I will not reveal their names but I am ready to curse.”

✋🏼The messenger of Imam Hussain (AS) ascended the pulpit and began by praising Allah (SWT). He then continued sending salutations upon the Holy Prophet (SAWA). He praised Imam Ali (AS), Imam Hassan (AS), and Imam Hussain (AS). Then he cursed Ibn Ziyad, his father and the entire tribe of Bani Umayyah before adding, “O people, I have been sent to you by Imam Hussain (AS), so respond to his call.”

🖤Ibn Ziyad ordered his agents to throw down the messenger of the Imam (AS) from the roof of his palace and the messenger was thus martyred. May Allah shower his blessings upon him.

🐪After the martydom of Qais bin Moshher Saydaw, the Imam’s messenger in Kufa, Ibn Ziyad ordered to close all roads including Waqisa, the road to Kufa; Syria, the road to Shaam; and Iraq, the road to Basra, in order to paralyze any communication between the Imam and his Ummah (Montahiyul A’maal Vol.1).

😔Imam Hussein (AS) continued his journey until he reached a watering place of Arabs where Abdullah Bin Mtee Adawi was residing. Abdullah said to the Imam, "O son of the Prophet of Allah, I request you in the name of Allah to consider the sanctity of Islam, beside the sanctity of Quraish and the Arabs. By Allah, if you are going to take away the kingdom from Bani Ummayah, they will kill you. And when they have killed you they shall not fear anyone else after you. By Allah, Thus the sanctity of Islam, Quraish and the Arabs will be violated. Hence do not do so, and do not go to Kufa and do not expose yourself to Bani Umayyah" (Nafasul Mahmum).

🕋Imam Hussein (AS) replied by reciting the following verse from the quran:

قُلْ لَنْ يُصِيبَنَا إِلَّا مَا كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَنَا هُو مَوْلَانَا ۚ وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ
َ
🙏Say, “Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector. And upon Allah let the believers rely." (9:51)

🕊Imam Hussein (AS) continued his journey toward Iraq. At the same time, the caravan of Zuhayr was traveling alongside Imam Hussein (AS). Zuhayr was hesitant about facing the Imam throughout the journey until both caravans reached a place where separation of the caravans was not possible, and tents were put up side by side. As lunch time approached, the Imam sent a messenger to Zuhayr's tent to invite him to visit the Imam. Zuhayr did not respond to the invitation until his wife Dulham said to him, "The son of the prophet of Allah has sent his messenger to you, so why do you not go to meet him? Glory be to Allah. I request that you go see him and listen to what he has to say.”

🖤Zuhayr then went to see the Imam, and after a short meeting with him, he returned to his tent with a bright face. Zuhayr ordered all his belongings to be transferred to the Imam's caravan. He said to his wife, "I have decided to assist Imam Hussein (AS) until I sacrifice my life for him.” Zuhayr stood alongside his Imam until he attained martyrdom.

🐎From Thaarallah to Baqiyyatallah

⛓️Two men from the Bani Asad tribe were following Imam Hussein (AS) after completing their Hajj. They followed the trace of the Imam's caravan and finally find him in Zarood. As they were approaching the caravan, they saw a man coming from the direction of Kufa. They stopped and asked him whether there was any news from Kufa. He said "I had not left Kufa until I saw Muslim bin Aqeel and Hani bin Urwah being martyred. I saw that their legs were tied with ropes and their corpses being dragged in the streets of Kufa." [Nafasul Mahmum]

🥀The men then reached Imam Hussein (AS) and told him that they had just received some news about Kufa from a reliable source. They asked the Imam (AS) about whether to expose the news in public or secretly. Imam Hussein (AS) replied: "There is nothing hidden from my companions." So, they informed the Imam and his companions about the martyrdom of Muslim & Hani. Upon hearing of this news, the Imam replied, Verily we are Allah's and verily unto him shall we return. May Allah's blessings be upon both of them. There is no goodness in life after Muslim."

After Imam Hussein’s (AS) speech, people started moving away from his caravan and only a group of his companions remained. The Imam's goal was for the genuine companions who knew what was ultimately going to happen to remain in his caravan.

As his companions revealed, Imam Hussein (AS) did not halt or leave that place, without remembering Prophet Yahya (AS) & one day he said: "one of the wretched things of the world in the sight of Allah is that the head of Yahya was taken as a token of gift to one of the adulteress of Bani Israel." He then told his companions to collect water in large amounts and to continue the journey till they reached Batnul Aqbah, where they then stopped. At this place the Imam met Amr bin Lawzan who asked the Imam where he intended to go. Imam stated Kufa.

Amr said: "I invoke you in the name of Allah to return back, for your hosts will be none other than the points of the lances and the edges of the swords."

Imam Hussein (AS) replied to Amr, "O slave of Allah, I am not unaware of what you are speaking about, but none can go against the commands of the Almighty. By Allah, these people will not leave me until they spill the blood of my heart, and when they have done this, Allah will appoint a person over them, who will make them the most humiliated among nations." [Nafasul Mahmum]

It is narrated from Imam Ja'far as Sadiq (AS), that when Imam Hussein (AS) reached Bathul Uqba, he addressed his companions by saying:

"I see myself being murdered". The companions asked why do you say that Ya Aba Abdellah?
Imam replied that he had dreamt about it. Imam said he saw that “dogs have been injuring him and a piebald dog is wretched among them all.”

Then, Imam Hussain (AS) moved the caravan toward Sharaf and at dawn he commanded his men to collect water in large amounts before proceeding further.

🕋On the 8th of Zul-Hajja Imam Hussein changed his major pilgrimage (Tamatto’) to a minor one (Omra) and delivered the following speech:

🤲🏽“Praise be to Allah's will only! There is no power but with Allah! And blessing of Allah be upon his messenger! Verily death is bound to the sons of Adam as a necklace around the neck of maiden. How I desire and long to meet my ancestors as Prophet Ya'qoob p.b.u.h desired to meet Prophet Yusuf p.b.u.h.

🏴Verily, I proceed toward the place of my martyrdom, which has been selected for me. It is as if I see the wolves of the desert (Bani Umayyah) separating each part of my body between Nawawees and Karbala, while filling their empty bellies. There is no escape from that which has been written down by the pen of destiny, and pleasure of our Household (Ahlul Bayt) lies in the pleasure of Allah.

🖤Verily we will endure his trials and secure the reward due for the forbearing ones. The cord of the prophet (S) and his child cannot be separated from him, but all will be united together with him near the Right (Allah). Thereby his (the Prophet's) eyes will be cooled due to us and thus Allah will fulfill what He has promised through them. Then whoever desires to lay down his life for us and strive in the way of Allah, should come out with us, for I shall be leaving tomorrow morning, Allah willing.”
