A Brief Biography of Mirza Muhammad Baqir Sharif Tabatabaei
Mirza Muhammad Baqir Sharif Tabatabaei was born in a village named “Qehi” in the vicinity of Isfahan. His father, Mulla Muhammad Jafar was an admirer of Sheikh Ahmad Ahsaei Ala Maqami.
After learning the basics of from his father, Mirza Muhammad Baqir travelled to Isfahan to continue his education, and resided in Nimavard School where he studied different sciences for several years. Then he met one of the admirers of Haj Muhammad Karim Kermani, (who was also known as “Badr”). Since Kermani was on a pilgrimage to Imam Reza’s shrine in Mashhad through Yazd, he travelled to Yazd in the hope of visiting the great man in 1261 Hijri year.
Since the path was dangerous, and Kermani returned to Kerman, Mirza Muhammad Baqir accompanied him to Kerman, and resided in Ibrahimieh School, studying Islamic theology. In a short time he had reached a level where he could teach the lessons of his grand master.
After several years, the date of which is not known, Kermani sent him to the city of Naein for preaching and guidance, where he spent some years preaching and proselytizing.
Mirza Muhammad Baqir immediately gained the attention and respect of the Sheikhieh members of Naein, Anarak, Jandaq, Biabanak and the surrounding cities.
Then he returned to Kerman, Until Kermani left for a pilgrimage to Karbala in 1283 Hijri year. When he arrived in Hamedan, because of the great number of Sheikhieh adherents, and also lack of great leaders after the demise of Mullah Abdulsamad Hamedani, he appointed Mirza Muhammad Baqir as a leader in his absence, and continued his pilgrimage to Karbala.
Mirza Muhammad Baqir stayed in Hamedan since his mentor had mandated it. He engaged in preaching, proselytizing and teaching Islamic principles for 32 years. He was a great leader and protector for the Sheikhieh members after the demise of his mentor until 1315 Hijri.
In Eid al-Fitr of 1315 when the riots of Hamedan occurred, he migrated to Jandaq village and stayed there for the rest of his fruitful life, teaching Islamic principles and preaching. He passed away on the 23th of Sha’ban 1319, at the age of 80. After Maqrib and Isha prayer.
This great man was buried in the same village, but after two years his body was moved to Mashhad to be laid to rest in Imam Reza’s shrine, next to his Imam. He has left more than 190 manuscripts and almost 2000 sermons and teachings.
In memoriam Harald Motzki
We are deeply saddened by the news of Harald Motzki’s passing earlier this month, on 8 February. Harald was a much-admired member of the Dutch Islamic Studies community, a mentor to many of us, and an esteemed friend. His work on the early history of Islamic law and on hadith criticism has indelibly changed the course of research on the formative period of Islamic intellectual history. We are deeply grateful for his many valuable contributions, for his passionate yet clear-headed dedication to the study of Islam, from which we have all benefitted so much in our own work, in both academic and personal terms; for Harald was a true gentleman scholar who set a shining example not only of ‘ilm but also of adab. NISIS, whose creation owes much to Harald’s support and on whose board he served for several years, laments the loss of a great scholar and a wonderful personality. He will be remembered warmly and gratefully.

🌿TIME named the Ayatullah Khomeini Man of the Year in 1979
A politically active Shi'ite cleric, Khomeini was an outspoken critic of the Shah of Iran's Western-influenced policies and was exiled to Iraq for 14 years before moving to France, where he continued his opposition. By January 1979, public anger with the Shah caused him to flee, and a month later Khomeini returned from exile. By April he had established a theocracy based on strict adherence to Islamic law, with the U.S. as Iran's greatest enemy.
With his support, students seized the U.S. embassy in Tehran on November 4, 1979, and held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days. In 1980, a dispute with Iraq became an eight-year holy war that cost the two countries more than one million lives. He remains a powerful symbol to Iranians even after his death in 1989. "Rarely has so improbable a leader shaken the world," said TIME in naming him Man of the Year for 1979. (1/7/80).

Crisis in the Muslim Mind
AbūSulaymān, ‘AbdulHamīd
The author, however, is a distinguished thinker whose
concern is with the goals of the Ummah and the objectives
of its existence. At times, readers will notice that his words
have the hardness of a majahid or the directness of a
pioneer. His writing is frank. for he goes straight to the
point that he wishes to make. Rather than use a circuitous
route, he shakes the reader with his exposition and
forcefully draws his attention to the objective.
The original publication of this book in Arabic was delayed for several years in anticipation of the moment when
the Ummah's political and intellectual leadership would be
ready to look realistically and candidly at such a deep and
comprehensive discussion of the Ummah's situation. Recent
events, however, have made the translation of this book and
the adaptation of the topics it deals with a matter of great
importance. We can only hope that the book will find a
place for itself among the issues that engage
"The Temple of Silence"
Long ago in Japan, there was a monastery in the tall mountain tops. It was called the "Temple of Silence". In it, students from the village and various areas visited for hours, days, weeks, months, sometimes, a few years, or dedicated their whole lives. It was up to their spiritual emptiness to decide how long they needed to stay refill and learn wisdom.
The grandmaster taught his students the art of silence... Through silence, simply by staring at them.
One day some decades later, down below in the villages of the valley, people heard voices from the "Temple of Silence"!
People who were the students of that monastery were surprised because everyday they would only hear the voice of a few gongs from the temples bell.
After waiting for few hours, they strutted up to see what was going on. As they entered they saw grandmaster's dead body covered with a white cloth.
And then they saw some smart duplicate teachers preaching to the new students the jurisprudence of silence, the philosophy of silence, the ethics of silence, the history of silence, and various other sub-topics upon silence.
Everything was there. However, the only thing lacking from the temples atmosphere was silence itself.

The story of Ali Ibn Mahziyar seeing the twelfth Imam (peace be with him):
Ali ibn Mahziyar used to go to Mecca and the shrines of Imams with a main intention to see the Imam. However, after several years of traveling and pilgrimage the journeys proved futile.
One day Ibn Mahziyar was going to do a final pilgrimage, crying to the Imam that I've been coming all these years and I haven't seen you, so what benefit of pilgrimage do I have if I don't see you. Ibn Mahziyar does this pilgrimage and goes home. At home, he sees Imam in a dream saying come do pilgrimage one more time. So Ibn Mahziyar goes to the shrines, Kufa, Najaf, Karbala, Baghdad, etc. where he saw no Imam. But when he reached Mecca, he was doing Tawaf as he saw a young man who's face shines brighter than the moon in spiritual luminosity wearing Yemeni clothing. He came to Ibn Mahziyar and asked him if he was Ibn Mahziyar. He confirmed and then the Youth told him that the Imam sent him to bring him to Imam.
However, Ibn Mahziyar would have to separate from his group. After separating, the youth takes Ibn Mahziyar into the depth of the desert and then stops as they both see a tent with a green flag. The youth says the Imam is in there, let me ask permission if you can come in. As the youth sought permission, Ibn Mahziyar worried that the Imam may change his mind and reject him even though traveled all this way.
Eventually the youth comes out grinning and tells him the Imam wishes to see him. Ibn Mahziyar walks in and the Yusuf e Zahra, is sitting on a mat with a few pillows. Imam tells Ibn Mahziyar something which truly showed what a gift Ibn Mahziyar God had given him. Imam asked Ibn Mahziyar to stay a few days. So Ibn Mahziyar spent a few days with the Imam, and then the Imam asked him to leave as it was getting late for him. With a broken heart, Ibn Mahziyar sat on his horse and travelled a short distance only to have a quaking heart which ushered him to go see the Imam one last time. As he looked back, the tent was gone.

⚖️Justice of Imam Ali (peace be with him):
➡️The Retirement
📍The old man, a Christian by religion, had worked all his life; but had not been able to save anything for his old age. Lately he had become also blind. Old age, poverty and blindness had joined hands and he had no other way except begging. He used to stand at the corner of a lane for begging. People had compassion for him and gave him some alms from which he ate every day, and so he con- tinued his sad life.
📍One day Ali, the Leader of the Faithfuls passed through the lane and saw the beggar in that condition. Ali, out of his concern for others, enquired about the old man. He wanted to know the factors which led him to that condition. "Had he no son to support him? Or, is there no other way for him to live a respectable life in his old age?"
📍The people who knew the old man came forward and informed Ali that he was a Christian and had worked hard so long as he had his eyes, and was young and strong. Now that he had lost his youth as well as his eyes he was unable to do any work; also he had no savings, so it was natural that he was begging.
📍Ali said, "Strange! Till he had strength you extracted work from him and now you have left him on his own?" His story shows that he had worked when he had the strength. Therefore, it is the duty of the Government and the society to support him till he is alive. Go, and give him a life-pension from the State-treasury."

GOD'S LAST APOSTLE, PROPHET MUHAMMED NAMES HIS SUCCESSOR (10 A.H./632 A.D.)
In 10 A.H./632 A.D., immediately following Hijjatul-Wada' (the Farewell Pilgrimage, the last pilgrimage performed by Prophet Mohammed), a divine order was revealed to the Prophet to convey the remaining Islamic tenets: the annual pilgrimage to Mecca and the Imamate of the Twelve Infallible Imams.
The Prophet called upon the faithful to accompany him on his last pilgrimage; he knew that it would be his last and that he would soon have to leave this temporary abode for the eternal one. More than one hundred and twenty thousand Muslims responded to his call.
(Here is explanation to some muslims accuse the Prophet of Islam of having neglected to name his successor, not knowing that he actually did exactly so in accordance with the Divine order which he had received on Dhul-Hijja 17, 10 A.H./March 18, 632 A.D., announcing the name of his successor the very next day, and here are the details)
The Prophet and his company put on the ihram garbs at the appropriate time at Masjid al-Shajara, a short distance from Mecca, his birthplace, which he entered on Dhul-Hijja 5, 10 A.H./March 6, 632 A.D. The Prophet's call reached Yemen where' Ali ibn Abu Talib was acting as his representative.
Twelve thousand Yemenite pilgrims came out headed by' Ali in response to the Prophet's call to accompany him on his historic Pilgrimage, bringing the total number of those early pilgrims to more than one hundred and thirty-two thousand.
The Islamic pilgrimage starts in the month of Thul-Hijja (month of the pilgrimage), the last Islamic lunar calendar month, and continues for at least ten days. First, each pilgrim dons a special garb called ihram; males' ihram consists of two white sheets or towels covering the upper and lower parts of the body, whereas females wear a full white cotton outfit, simple and modest.
This ihram reminds the pilgrim of his/her death and of the equality of all before God. All pilgrims perform the same rituals; none receives any favourable treatment or distinction on account of his status, power, or wealth. The pilgrimage starts by the tawaf the circling of the Ka'ba seven times. The Ka'bais identified in Islamic literature as an earthly counterpart to the Almighty's Throne (' Arsh) in heaven where the angels circle it in adoration. Likewise, in imitation of those angels, Muslim pilgrims circle the Ka'ba in adoration of their Lord.
The tawaf is followed by the sa'i: the pilgrims run back and forth seven times between the -Safa and the Marwa in commemoration of Hagar (Hajar), mother of Ishmael, frantically searching for water for her newborn son Ishmael. After that, the pilgrims drink of the well of Zamzam which had appeared miraculously for Hagar and Ishmael, wash with it or use it to make ablution for prayers at the Ka'ba; Zamzam is sacred for such an application.
Then the pilgrims leave Mecca for Muzdalifa, 'Arafa, and finally Mina to perform certain rites which fall outside the scope of this book which is intended to be a historical account of the Prophet of Islam, not one of fiqh. The author is a writer, a researcher, someone who, according to a friend of mine, "insists on finding out who the foundling's father is!" But he is not a faqih. Now let us go back to our original story after having cast a glimpse at the rite of the pilgrimage in Islam.
It was at' Arafa that the divine command was received by Prophet Muhammad to appoint 'Ali as "Ameerul-Mo'mineen," the Commander of the Faithful, title of the bearer of the highest temporal and religious powers in the Islamic State, one reserved solely for caliphs, those who are supposed to be the most knowledgeable of all people of secular and religious problems and of how to solve them.
Muhammad was also ordered to convey to' Ali the knowledge which the Almighty had bestowed upon him so that it would not be lost once he is dead. In Mina, the Prophet delivered two sermons in preparation of the great announcement to come.

After Imam Hussein’s (AS) speech, people started moving away from his caravan and only a group of his companions remained. The Imam's goal was for the genuine companions who knew what was ultimately going to happen to remain in his caravan.
As his companions revealed, Imam Hussein (AS) did not halt or leave that place, without remembering Prophet Yahya (AS) & one day he said: "one of the wretched things of the world in the sight of Allah is that the head of Yahya was taken as a token of gift to one of the adulteress of Bani Israel." He then told his companions to collect water in large amounts and to continue the journey till they reached Batnul Aqbah, where they then stopped. At this place the Imam met Amr bin Lawzan who asked the Imam where he intended to go. Imam stated Kufa.
Amr said: "I invoke you in the name of Allah to return back, for your hosts will be none other than the points of the lances and the edges of the swords."

🌺 The tragedy of Karbala has an exterior manifestation and an interior kernel. Those who have not covered the first journey, behold the exterior manifestation, and are thus naturally overcome with sorrow and led to perpetual lamentation.
Many of us belong to this category. Such lamentations of sorrow, as we have learnt in our previous discussions, are highly encouraged by the authorities of Islam and have great benefits for every sincere believer. However, if through lamentation and other means taught by Islam, one is able to cover the first journey, he would be overcome with ecstasy and joy when he beholds the inner truths of what happened on the plains of Karbala.
Perhaps it is this dimension that the well-known Ziyarat Ashura alludes to when it teaches us to say in the state of prostration ‘Praise be to Allah for my great calamity’ (alhamdu lillahi ‘ala ‘azimi raziyyati). In other words, we are trying to say, “O Allah we praise you for this great calamity, because its kernel is nothing save beauty and inexpressible delight.”
The late Ayatullah Muhammad Husayn Tehrani points to this inner dimension of the tragedy of Karbala in his famous work ‘The Liberated Soul’ (Ruhe Mujarrad) when he discusses about the states experienced by his spiritual mentor Sayyid Hashim Haddad who once upon a time would be extremely happy during the days of Muharram and weep tears of joy and ecstasy.
Ayatullah Tehrani quotes him saying: ‘Ashura is the climax of love! It is the most splendid manifestation of God’s beauty and majesty together. It is the best reflection of the Divine Names of mercy and wrath in the same event.
For the Ahl al-Bayt (‘a), it was nothing but completing the stages and degrees of their journey, reaching the pinnacle of eternity, freedom from the facades, realization of the true Source behind all these appearances, and absolute annihilation in the Essence of the One. [‘Allamah Tehrani, Liberated Soul (Tr. By T Raja), p.58]. In the same book, he also says: ‘Agha Haddad [his spiritual mentor] used to cry a lot during the first ten days of Muharram, but his cry was out of love and zeal. Sometimes he was so excited and exuberant that his tears would flow down onto his noble beard. It was as if his face was a downspout where a rain of love and mercy flowed.’ [p. 59 of the same work].
Thereafter in this work the author says that this state of Sayyid Haddad was when he had ended the first spiritual journey, which is ‘from the creation to God’ and was immersed in the second journey (which is traversing in the Attributes of God) in the state of annihilation in God. But when he had completed the fourth spiritual journey which in the jargon of the mystical scholars is called ‘subsistence in God after annihilation’ (al-baqa’ bi Allah ba‘d al-fana’), he would weep both out of sorrow and ecstasy. In such a level the mystic gives every plane of existence its due right, and acts according to the respective level.

Meeting of the grand Ayatollah Boroujerdi with a great Eastern Philosopher and his visit of Ahlulbayt.
Late Sheikh Muhammad Sharif Rāzi has mentioned in his book “The Treasure of Scholars”:
💢 In the month of Dhi-Hajjah in 1368 hijri, I was at the house of the late Ayatollah Hojjat (RA), and the late Mirza Mahdi Āshtiyani was there.
💢 Ayatollah Borujerdi and Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Taghi Khwansāri came to see him.
💢 After the formalities and compliments, Ayatullah Hojjat said to Ayatollah Boroujerdi: Agha Mirza Mehdi Ashtiani have a beautiful Mokashefah (unveiling into the unseen) and it is appropriate if he himself narrates it.
💢 Agha Mīrza Āshtiyāni said: "I am having jaundice, and so I have been traveling abroad for treatment, but I have not been cured," he said. In 1365 (AH), when the Marxists had dominated the north and west of Iran, I visited Mashhad for pilgrimage.
💢 During the bus (ride there) I suddenly so sick that the passengers and the driver thought I had a stroke. They stopped the bus and took me out for help.
💢 Then I saw (found myself) that I was in Arafāt, and many heavenly lights were coming to the ground. And I saw that the people were attracted to one side.
💢 I asked: what's going on ? They said: Hazrat Rasoul (prophet Mohammad peace be with him and his progeny) has just arrived.
💢 I went to that side and saw few tents next to each other. The big tent belonged to the Prophet (peace be with him and his progeny). I passed over to the tent and visited the Prophet. I wanted to say about my sickness and my other anxieties and needs, but he (Prophet) said: "since you are pilgrimage of my son Reza (peace be with him), go to the tent that belongs to him” to see him.
💢 Then I went to the tent of Hazrat Imām Reza, and I mentioned three of my needs.
🔸 The first about my sickness, he said: It is destined to stay with you until you die.
🔸 Second: about the trial and corruptions of Marxists, He said: "Soon their evils will pass by. And you are all safe until you connect with (our) shrines and mourn in Majaalis of us Ahlulbayt with true recognition of us.
🔸And the third was about my personal issue. Regarding that he said: This will be done also.

Narrative of Haj Ahmad and Agha Imām Zamān عج الله فرجه (May God hasten his reapperence):
💠🌸💠🌸💠🌸💠🌸💠🌸💠🌸💠
💠Narrated by hojjatul Islam Sayyed Fatemi
🔹Haj Ahmad was a pious believer who used to live in Najaf. For twenty plus years he was in deep love with the Imam of the Time. He would often go to shrines, the Ka'ba, and other sacred locations with the intent of seeing and meeting the twelfth Imam. For 20 plus years he continued supplicating and endeavoring to see the Imam.
🔹One day during his old age, he visited Imām Ali's shrine and complained to him that his son (Imām Zamān) is not wanting to see him.
After complaining and weeping his heart out of misery (of not being able to see the Imam), he went home and decided that life was not worth living anymore. So he sat down in a state of trance and decided that it was best to prepare to die with loss of hope (of old age and failure to see his Imam).
🔹After sometime, while sitting and slowly losing consciousness, a voice (or perhaps a figure) told him to go to such and such location to see the Imam. Full of energy, he arose and hurried to a locksmith’s (key-maker's) small store. As he entered, there was an old man locksmith Haj Ali and a youthful man standing beside Haj Ali, whom Haj Ahmad identified immediately as the Imam.
🔹When Haj Ahmad had entered, Imam instructed him: "Be silent, and now see and listen". Then the Imam and locksmith (Haj Ali) had a conversation like best buddies, perhaps asking the Imam if he remembered that time they visited hajj together, some other time that they visited ziyarah together or that one time... (So forth).
🔹As the Imam and locksmith were speaking, a helpless woman entered and asked the key-maker (Haj Ali) if he can buy her lock for 3 dinars, since her child was sick and needed medicine. Haj Ali looked at the lock and said that its worth was 10 dinars, not 3. Locksmith told the woman that he can make a key for (her) lock if she wanted to use it (since the lock was well made), but her reply was negative since she was in the need of money. The locksmith proposed that she sell it for 10 Dinars and only then would he will purchase it. Hearing this, she was more happy that the locksmith was willing to pay her more for her lock.
Haj Ali gave her 10 Dinars, and happily with joy the woman left. After a few strides, she returned and told Haj Ali that she would like to pray for him. The woman prayed: "Oh God may Haj Ali's hand always be in the hands of Imam Mahdi".
🌹Imam Mahdi raised his hands and replied "elahi ameen".
🌹Imam then told Haj Ahmad (who observed everything) that as long as you become like this locksmith, only then will I see you and you will see me.

The Islamic Association "Imam Mahdi" in Rome Italy organized an art exhibition entitled "The Ark of Salvation" dedicated to the Passion of Ashura in Islam and Christianity with the internationally renowned Iranian artist Hassan Ruholamin. After having held exhibitions in Paris and Berlin, he presented five of his new unpublished works for the Italian public. The first objective of the event was the reach of Ashura's message to Italians through artistic expressions closer to their culture and mindset. A great result was obtained through the presence of many Italians, several of whom non-Muslims, who participated in the event.

🔸“Al-Fudayl bin ‘Iyyad, one of the renowned urafa (ascetic and scholar) was a thief and a highway robber before an inner transformation occurred in him and he repented sincerely. One night a caravan was passing him, and a man in the caravan was reciting the Qur’an. Al-Fudayl heard him recite this verse:
🔹أَلَمْ يَأْنِ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَن تَخْشَعَ قُلُوبُهُمْ لِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ
🔹‘Is it not time yet for those who have faith, that their hearts should be humbled for Allah’s remembrance?’ (57: 16)
🔸This verse pierced the heart of al-Fudayl like an arrow. He immediately answered to this verse and said to himself, ‘Yes, the time has come.’ After this an amazing transformation occurred in his soul and he started compensating for his past mistakes.”

An Example of a Perfect Marriage according to the Principles of AhlulBayt...
https://t.me/AbodeofWisdom/7887
In 2017, an Iranian young man saw a modest and beautiful young Lebanese woman during the Arbaeen walk in Iraq. He simply asked her father through a mediator regarding his intentions to marry her. The father then invites him and his family to come to Lebanon and propose there. Weeks later, upon reaching Lebanon the young man’s family proposes and the girl’s family accepts the proposal without asking for any absurd conditions such as academic status or financial matters, and neither any large sum for the bridal gift (mahr). The young woman, in fact, requests to be given a Quran and a pilgrimage trip to Imām Redha’s shrine in Mashhad. The young couple also did not have a marriage ceremony, rather they saved the money to have been spent on that to purchase necessities of living for their home. The young man was 23 years old and the young lady was 16 years of age when they got married and began their blessed lives together.
Some points to note:
📍The young man did not waste time when he saw a potential match. He went straight to the father without wasting time despite being at Arbaeen walk.
📍The father of the girl was focused on seeing the moral attributes, religiosity, and character of the boy instead of his societal achievements like finance, education, and living arrangements.
📍The girl did not waste time prolonging marriage, neither did she request it to be extravagant and lavish. She preferred that her bridal gift only be as simple as the Book of God and a trip to Mashhad.
📍The age range was not an issue since both sides entered the marriage with understanding and acceptance.

LIFE AFTER LIFE
Late Āyatollāh Shaykh Sāfi Golpayegani wrote a wonderful book named: “Muntakhab-ul Athar Fil Imam-is Sāni Ashar” around nineteen years before the Iranian revolution. During that time editing and printing a book was much more difficult than today and it required a lot of effort. So Āyatollāh Shaykh Sāfi says that he decided to review his book and confirm that everything was correct once after the long process of the publication process, where he said that it had to go to different cities for revision and review.
Āyatollāh Sāfi says that when he was busy reviewing his book he fell sick and would not get better despite taking medications. He says that his family was convinced his time of death came and began preparing for it. The elder scholars from his relatives like his father inlaw Āyatollāh Sayyed Mohammad Reza Golpayegani and some others came to say their final goodbyes.
At this point, Āyatollāh Shaykh Sāfi says that he died and that his soul began to elevate upward. There, he said that the scene completely changed. How beautiful, delightful, and unfathomable in pleasure and beauty existed there, he recalls. He said that while witnessing the greatness of that scene a voice asked him if he wanted to return? Ayatollah Safi said: “No not at all.” Some time passed and the question was repeated but he answered in the negative. The voice then asked if he had any work that had to be complete? He says: “yes, I was trying to finish reviewing my book, but perhaps Imām Mahdi did not find it favorable for me to finish the book (and thus God took my soul).” Āyatollāh Sāfi says that as soon as he said that his soul returned!
The people around his bed were surprised to see him return. Āyatollāh Sāfi healed completely, after which he finished his book and lived a long life of 106 years. The Sayyed (in the talk show) says that even when he spoke during his old age his memory remained intact with smallest of details.
The Sayyed continues: “we thought sustenance (rizq) was simply (quick doses of) material and spiritual (benefits), but never thought it to be a lifelong effect!“
The Sayyed says: “I asked his permission to share this story. Though he preferred it not to be shared, I insisted and said that perhaps (his experience) was a trust (by God) to him and it (was an experience) shared by you (the master and mentor). So let us the students benefit.”
