Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, chronological account of events in Anglo-Saxon and Norman England, a compilation of seven surviving interrelated manuscript records that is the primary source for the early history of England. The narrative was first assembled in the reign of King Alfred (871–899) from materials that included some epitome of universal history: the Venerable Bede’s Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum, genealogies, regnal and episcopal lists, a few northern annals, and probably some sets of earlier West Saxon annals. The compiler also had access to a set of Frankish annals for the late 9th century. Soon after the year 890 several manuscripts were being circulated; one was available to Asser in 893, another, which appears to have gone no further than that year, to the late 10th-century chronicler Aethelweard, while one version, which eventually reached the north and which is best represented by the surviving E version, stopped in 892. Some of the manuscripts circulated at this time were continued in various religious houses, sometimes with annals that occur in more than one manuscript, sometimes with local material, confined to one version. The fullness and quality of the entries vary at different periods; the Chronicle is a rather barren document for the mid-10th century and for the reign of Canute, for example, but it is an excellent authority for the reign of Aethelred the Unready and from the reign of Edward the Confessor until the version that was kept up longest ends with annal 1154.
The Chronicle survived to the modern period in seven manuscripts (one of these being destroyed in the 18th century) and a fragment, which are generally known by letters of the alphabet. The oldest, the A version, formally known as C.C.C. Cant. 173 from the fact that it is at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, is written in one hand up to 891 and then continued in various hands, approximately contemporary with the entries. It was at Winchester in the mid-10th century and may have been written there. It is the only source for the account of the later campaigns of King Edward the Elder. Little was added to this manuscript after 975, and in the 11th century it was removed to Christ Church, Canterbury, where various interpolations and alterations were made, some by the scribe of the F version. The manuscript G, formally known as Cotton Otho B xi (from the fact that it forms part of the Cotton collection of manuscripts at the British Museum), which was almost completely destroyed by fire in 1731, contained an 11th-century copy of A, before this was tampered with at Canterbury. Its text is known from a 16th-century transcript by L. Nowell and from Abraham Wheloc’s edition (1644).
The B version (Cott. Tib. A vi) and the C version (Cott. Tib. B i) are copies made at Abingdon from a lost archetype. B ends at 977, whereas C, which is an 11th-century copy, ends, mutilated, in 1066. Their lost original incorporated into the text in a block after annal 915 a set of annals (902–924) known as the Mercian Register.

Harrison's Manual Medicine 19E v1.0
Requirements: 3.0 +
Overview: Harrison's Manual of Medicine, 19th Edition presents clinical information drawn from the 19th edition of Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine (HPIM), covering the key features of the diagnosis, clinical manifestations, and treatment of the major diseases that are likely to be encountered in medical practice.
A concise resource drawn from the landmark guide to internal medicine
The Manual has become ever more useful with the rapid expansion of medical knowledge and the increasing time constraints associated with heavy patient-care responsibilities in modern health care settings. The Manual’s popularity and value reflect its abbreviated format, which has proven extremely useful for initial diagnosis and management in time-restricted clinical settings. In particular, the format allows readers to locate and use information quickly.
The Manual has been written for easy and seamless reference to the full text of the 19th edition of HPIM. Although not a substitute for in-depth analysis of clinical problems, the Manual serves as a ready source of informative summaries, numerous tables, and detailed graphics that will be useful “on the spot” and that will prepare the reader for more in-depth analysis through more extensive reading at a later time. Every chapter of the 19th edition has been closely reviewed and updated, with substantial revisions and new chapters provided where appropriate.
Presented in full color and incorporating an efficient blend of succinct text, bullet points, algorithms, and tables, Harrison’s Manual of Medicine presents concise information on the key features of the diagnosis, clinical manifestations, and treatment of the major diseases that are likely to be encountered in medical practice, including:
• Etiology and Epidemiology
• Clinically Relevant Pathophysiology
• Signs and Symptoms
• Differential Diagnosis
• Physical and Laboratory Findings
• Therapeutics
• Practice Guidelines

ITHBAT AL-RAJ’A OF FADHL BIN SHADHAN
Aal e Imran | May 9, 2016 | Tarajim & Rijal | No Comments
This is a translated summary of an article written by Hasan Ansari, called Huviyyat-e Waqa’iee-ye Kitab-e Ithbat al-Raj’a Mansub beh Fadhl bin Shadhan (Actual state of the book Ithbat al-Raj’a, as attributed to Fadhl bin Shadhan). The purpose is to merely provide another perspective on the book, and not necessarily for the readers/researchers to reach conclusions.
Narrations from a book by the name of Ithbat al-Raj’a, attributed to Fadhl bin Shadhan are found in the Mir Lawhi’s work Kifayah al-Muhtadhi fi Ma’rifah al-Mahdi (کفاية المهتدي في معرفة المهدي), a book written during the time of the Safavids. Furthermore, Hurr al-Amili seems to have taken some of these narrations from the works of Lawhi and called it Muntakhab Ithbat al-Raj’ah (منتخب اثبات الرجعة) published in the 15th issue of the magazine Turathuna. It has also been translated into English as The Return of al‐Mahdi by Sayyid Saeed Akhtar Rizvi.
This work is not mentioned in any other earlier works at all, and its narrations – minus a few – can’t be found in other books written by Fadhl bin Shadhan. So we do not know how this text ended up receiving the name Ithbat al-Raj’a. Even if one says that the name of Fadhl bin Shadhan exists in the manuscript itself, it does not suffice as proof, because the manuscript’s authenticity itself is not proven.
The actual book of Fadhl bin Shadhan by the name of Ithbat al-Raj’a was not a book of narrations, rather it was a theological work. Even if we assume the far-fetched view that this current book is his, then it wouldn’t have been called Ithbat al-Raj’a, rather Kitab al-Raj’a. Furthermore, most of the narrations (which we have at our disposal due to Mir Lawhi and Hurr al-‘Amili) have nothing to do with Raj’a as a concept. Perhaps it would have been better to call the book al-Ghaybah as that is what the narrations pertain to.
Besides the discussion on why it being named Ithbat al-Raj’a is flawed, the actual attribution to Ibn Shadhan is also incorrect. When one looks at the chains of narrations, we see that there are individuals in chains who came after Ibn Shadhan, or they were contemporaries, but younger than Ibn Shadhan. Two individuals that Ibn Shadhan quotes from in this book are Sahl ibn Ziyad and Muhammad bin Abi al-Sihban – both were younger contemporaries of him and we do not find Ibn Shadhan reporting from them in any other work at all. Furthermore, there are certain matters recorded in the book that refer to events that took place after the life of Imam Hasan al-‘Askari (s). Nevertheless, the name of Ibn Shadhan does exist on the manuscript (placed by someone) – a manuscript which was found by Wijada anyways.
Because we do not know how the original book was organized (since we only have a few narrations from it), we cannot comment much on what it was originally. Perhaps it was a book of narrations, which included both authentic and fabricated traditions, or with fabricated chains. It is possible that if it was fabricated, it may have been done by someone who lived much earlier.
All in all, only a handful of narrations that exist in the book, can be found in other earlier hadith books as well such as al-Ghaybah of Tusi. Some narrations can also be found in the works of Shaykh Saduq, but it seems that the main work relied on for the contents was Kifayah al-Athar of Khazaz al-Qummi – a post-Ghaybah work. There are also some traditions whose text is not in-line with vocabulary that is seen in the general hadith corpus.
For example, a tradition whose text is similar to the Ahd of Ardashir:

💠⚜The Last Will of the master of the believers Imam Ali (peace be with him) to his sons Imam Hasan and Imam Husain (peace be with them) after the attempt on his life by a poisonous sword stab from Ibn Muljem(May God curse him):⚜💠
💎 1- My advice to you is to be conscious of Allah and steadfast in your religion. Do not yearn for the world, and do not be seduced by it. Do not resent anything you have missed in it. Proclaim the truth; work for the reward from God (eternal blessing and life after death). Oppose the oppressor and support the oppressed.
💎 2- I advise you, and all my children, my relatives, and whosoever receives this message, to be conscious of Allah, to remove your differences, and to strengthen your ties. I heard your grandfather, (Prophet Mohammad peace be upon him), said: "Reconciliation of your issues (disputes and differences) is more worthy than all prayers and all fasting."
💎 3- For the sake of God, for the sake of God, be careful concerning orphans. Attend to their nutrition and do not forget their interests in the middle of yours.
💎 4- For the sake of God, for the sake of God, be careful of your relations with your neighbors. Your Prophet very often recommended them to you, so much so that we thought he would give them a share in inheritance.
💎 5- For the sake of God, for the sake of God, carefully remain attached to the Quran. Nobody from others should surpass you in being intent on it, or more sincere in implementing it.
💎 6- For the sake of God, for the sake of God, be careful of your prayers. It is the pillar of your religion.
💎 7- For the sake of God, for the sake of God, be careful of His House; do not abandon it as long as you live. If you should do that you would abandon your dignity.
💎 8- For the sake of God, for the sake of God, Persist in hardships in the cause of Allah, with your money, your souls, and your tongue.
💎 9- You have to maintain relationships and communication and exchange of opinion among yourselves. Stay away from cutting off of each other and breakups.
💎 10- Do not desist from performing and promoting good deeds and do not withhold refraining against evil deeds and bad ones. Should you do that, the worst among you would become your leaders, if so happens, you would do pray from God but you won't be answered and responded by God.
💎 11- O sons of Abd-ul Mottaleb! Do not shed the blood of Muslim under the revenge (believing) The master of believers has been assassinated. No one should be condemned except only the assassin should be punished to death. If I die of this stab of his, kill him with one similar stroke. Do not mutilate him I have heard the Prophet, peace be with him, say: "mutilate not even a rabid dog."

💠💠💠💠💠﷽💠💠💠💠💠
The way most coveted by you should be that which is the most equitable for the right, the most universal by way of justice, and the most comprehensive with regard to the agreement among those under you, because the disagreement of the common people sweeps away the arguments of the chiefs while the disagreement of the chiefs can be disregarded when compared with the agreement of the common people.
No one among those under you is more burdensome to the ruler in times of ease, less helpful in distress, more disliking of equitable treatment, more importunate in asking favours, less thankful when given (anything), less appreciative of reasons at the time of refusal, and weaker in endurance at the time of the discomforts of life than the chiefs. It is the common people of the community who are the pillars of the religion, the power of the Muslims and the defence against the enemies. Your leanings should therefore be towards them and your inclination with them.
The one among the people under you who is furthest from you and the worst of them in your view should be he who is the most inquisitive of the shortcomings of the people, because people do have shortcomings and the ruler is the most appropriate person to cover them. Do not disclose whatever of it is hidden from you because your obligation is to correct what is manifest to you, while Allah will deal with whatever is hidden from you. Therefore, cover shortcomings so far as you can; Allah would cover those of your shortcomings which you would like to remain under cover from your subjects. Unfasten every knot of hatred in the people and cut away from yourself the cause of every enmity. Feign ignorance from what is not clear to you. Do not hasten to second a backbiter, because a backbiter is a cheat although he looks like those who wish well.
Do not include among those you consult a miser who would keep you back from being generous and caution you against destitution, nor a coward who would make you feel too weak for your affairs, nor a greedy person who would make beautiful to you the collection of wealth by evil ways. This is because miserliness, cowardice and greed are different qualities that an unfavourable opinion of Allah brings together.

💠💠💠💠💠﷽💠💠💠💠💠
Then you should take care of your secretarial workers. Put the best of them in charge of your affairs. Entrust those of your letters which contain your policies and secrets to him who possesses the best character, who is not elated by honours, lest he dares speak against you in common audiences. He should also not be negligent in presenting the communications of your officers before you and issuing correct replies to them on your behalf and in matters of your receipts and payments. He should not make any damaging argreement on your behalf and should not fail in repudiating an agreement against you. He should not be ignorant of the extent of his own position in matters because he who is ignorant of his own position is (even) more ignorant of the position of others.
Your selection of these people should not be on the basis of your understanding (of them), confidence and your good impression, because people catch the ideas of the officers through affectation and personal service and there is nothing in it which is like well-wishing or trustfulness. You should rather test them by what they did under the virtuous people before you. Take a decision in favour of one who has a good name among the common people and is the most renowned in trustworthiness, because this will be a proof of your regard for Allah and for him on whose behalf you have been appointed to this position (namely your Imam). Establish one chief for every department of work. He should not be incapable of big matters, and a rush of work should not perplex him. Whenever there is a defect in your secretaries which you overlook, then you will be held responsible for it.

The Manual says, “The first letter of the first word in a quotation may be Indent the block about a half inch from the left margin (in the same position as a new paragraph).changed to an uppercase or a lowercase letter.” Note the word may. If the block quote begins with a full sentence, keep the uppercase first letter. However, if the quote begins midsentence, you may or may not want to change the first letter to uppercase. If your introduction to the block quote leads directly into the quote, a lowercase first letter may be fine

Fong’s 1987 study (cited in Bertram 1996) found that older students’ memory can be as good as that of young people, but this depends on how memory is tested.
